Devils decline all of these.

They also decline all of these 1 for 1

Vanacek>Gibson
Hischier>Zegras
Nemec>Drysdale

Not quite. Hischier yes. Nemec hasn't shown anything at the NHL level yet, so that is TBD. And Gibson is better than Vanecek - if you put Gibson behind the Devils' D.

I think that's a little early to judge on both of them. In three to five years from now, then we can say if they do or don't

If your definition of trash is better than Vanecek, then yes he is.

Nemec has infinitely more potential and value. The analytics say gibson isn't good, and I wouldn't take him for free

What i dont get is why even bother debating this? With a penguins fan no less, hes the enemy, his "opinion" means nothing

"Infinitely" is overstating by a country mile. Both are good young promising Dmen. Nemec has more offensive upside POTENTIAL. That's it. And which analytics? Just last season? As ANA has trended into the basement Gibson's numbers suffered. Put him behind the Devils D and you would be much happier in the long run. Prime Hasek would have looked like a sieve on those ANA teams

Right... because I don't worship at the feet of Brodeur, I can't have an opinion. Got it..... thanks for clearing that up!

Agree to disagree. ANA'S team D is awful, and his numbers suffered. But that would be better in Jersey with their D

Gibson has awful stats and worse advanced stats. He is making Anaheim worse, not the other way around.

An 80-point Selke runner-up and a top-5 defensive prospect.

….get a lot more in return than small upgrade, at higher AAV, in net.

Yeah, because the goalie who had the most stolen games last season is really dragging the team down /S

Gibson is suffering under the workload he's having to face, which has been among the highest in the NHL in shots against per game for the last 5 years. Only goalie in the same zip code for workload has been Hellebyuck, difference being the Jets have still been competitive until very recently to keep Connor in the fight. What does Gibson have to fight for when he knows his team will miss the playoffs even if he plays better than Vasilevski?

Go throw some pads on and play behind a bad beer league team that lets you get sh*t kicked every night for a season facing 40+ shots a night and tell me your heart is still in it at end of season.

His GSAx is deep in the negative, and has been for years. Anaheim's other goalies fared far better this year.

It's possible you're right, but the risk is way too big for a contending team to take

The last time the guy believed in the team in front of him was 21-22 season prior to the Allstar break. Anaheim had managed to move up to 2nd in the pacific by that point. It came out shortly afterwards that Verbeek and Lindholm couldn't come to terms on an extension, and that Verbeek was selling at the deadline. After the Allstar break, the entire team fell off a cliff. Defense couldn't get the puck back, offense couldn't score when they had it, there were no good vibes to be had in Anaheim, at that point it was just Getzlaf's retirement tour.

Below is the pre Allstar split from 21-22 for Gibson and several of the leagues top goaltenders. He's shown when he believes in the team in front of him, he is among the best goalies in the league, he just hasn't had that in a long time. This is why Anaheim fans continue to believe in him as well.

Going into the allstar break
Gibson 0.922 sv% 2.49 GAA
Hellebuyck 0.910 sv% 2.90 GAA
Vasilevski 0.922 sv% 2.23 GAA
Markstrom 0.923 sv% 2.20 GAA
Shesterkin 0.937 sv% 2.10 GAA
Saros 0.927 sv% 2.35 GAA
Kuemper 0.915 sv% 2.55 GAA

He was really good. He has not been. Again, you may very well be right, but that's not a risk any competitive team can take, especially with the cap hit and acquisition cost
