Why would the jackets trade for another RD? it makes no sense

To pair Pesce with Werenski. D-pairs would look as follows:

Werenski - Pesce
Provorov - Severson
Bean - Gudbranson/Peeke

So we would have one of Gudbranson or Peeke scratched? thats alot of money for them not to play. What happens when Jiricek is ready? if we have Pesce for 6 years, Peeke for 3 more, and Gudbranson for 3 more? What about when Ceulemans is ready in a couple years?

We have already addressed our needs at RD, we arent trading for another one, especially not with a 6 year contract.

I'm pretty sure Peeke has been shopped around this offseason and in the event of a trade like this, would likely be moved out to a team with minimal NHL-caliber defensemen (ie chicago or anaheim). For Gudbranson, that contract was rough from the moment it was signed and he's either scratched, traded, or bought out in the next year or two would be my guess, whether Columbus trades for another dman or not. CBJ had been in the trade market for another top-4 guy even after they acquired Severson so I'm just looking at a potential marriage between team needs/wants. Especially considering Sillinger would likely start this year in the AHL due to CBJ's lineup currently.

Im not sure where you are getting that we were in the market for another defenseman after trading for Severson and Provorov, but we arent. Jiricek is expected to push for a spot soon, as he is too good for the AHL but will likely start down there this season anyway cause we dont have space. Comments from Babs seems like he is expecting Peeke in the lineup this season. Peeke or Boqvist is likely to be moved cause we dont have space for both, but based on Babs comments im guessing that Boqvist is the odd man out. The only thing that we really have been rumored to be interested in is a top 6 C.

I agree Silly could start the season in the AHL, but not cause of the lineup, but cause he struggled last season and could maybe use some time down there to get his game right, but that is to be seen based off of camp.

No motivation for the Canes here.

Undersized RHD who can’t stay healthy and is awful defensively. sillinger who hasn’t proved to be anything. We have TDA, we don’t need another.

Drury and Pesce make us better for next season.

Pesce doesn't make sense for Columbus. Jiricek and Severson are the top 4 RD of the foreseeable future. Werenski and Mateychuk or Svozil will have the top 4 LD spots covered. They're better off holding on to Sillinger since their center situation is far from settled.

There are ten teams around the league in desperate need of RD and you choose one that has no fewer than five credible NHL-level RD and Gudbranson under contract. Just amazing.

Even in your pro-trade argument, once Jiricek comes up (which is a matter of time) we'd be looking at playing him, a top-10 prospect in the league, on the 3rd pair; or paying one of Severson or Pesce $6.25M+ to play on the 3rd pair, and still scratching another $4M RD to do so, until he can be bought out next offseason.

I like Pesce, but this just makes no sense.
