Does anyone else miss Engvall

Created by: RipNasty
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 7, 2023
Published: Sep. 7, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
He certainly has his warts but I look at possible rosters for TO and think this would be better defensively than what we have and likely any loss in offence from Domi to Engvall is offset by way better defence. Also gives Knies more opportunity. 4th line is anyone's guess.
Trades
1.

I am not seriously suggesting a trade just looking at the roster.
2.

Engvall was useful but his consistent inability to regularly produce any offense - particularly in crunch time, i.e. playoffs - made him completely moveable in my eyes. Plus we would / never have paid him $3M so he was walking anyway.

That does look like a much better and balanced defense, would probably be the best 3rd pair in the league.

His offence would always frustrate, no question. What I really liked though was how hard he made it for the opposition to get anything going in our zone. When he was with Kampf, they formed a very good shutdown pair. I wonder what Lafferty would look like with them. He'd add some real speed and sand paper and maybe get more pucks to the net.

There is a strong possibility that Niemela is going to have to make the team the next year but it would be a better blueline for the playoffs I think. I am fine with the forwards though, I think and have always thought, they'll win when the core all step up in a big way. Really take over a series. I just want the bottom 6 to be tough to play against or can chip in with some offence from time to time. The 4th line will be a work in progress for a while I bet. B

After he left the bottom 6 had such a hard time moving the puck up ice.

engvall was a very frustrating player. massive build but never got physical, was usually on and off when it came to scoring. worked well with kampf though and looked like the gigachad meme so some mourning is in order.

They were an awesome duo at times...iirc when they beat Edmonton in Edmonton in 3 straight a couple of years back? I think McDavid and Draisaitl were off the score sheet in all 3 games? Was Mikheyev the 3rd musketeer?

I think what made people hate him is that nothing ever happened when he was on the ice. But I loved it. I wonder if anyone could correlate how many times TO scored the shift after Engvall's line regained possession, established a cycle and then kept it for a line change which resulted in a goal?

First off we don’t add to the better defender in Brodie, so we wouldn’t need tanev gio still got it he’s gonna play a lot this year, and I’m excited to see domi he wants to be here too we can resign him for the same money I bet

And the Avs decline anyway. I doubt they're willing to spend all their remaining cap on Jarnkrok and his term is prohibitive too. Value is fine but it would need to be a different team to the Avs.

Not for a 3rd when that’s basically what Bjorkstrand fetched last year and he’s a much better player TML has cap issues heck most of the league has cap issues. At the deadline probably but not a chance before the season starts.

Bjorkstrad makes more than double Jarnkrok and barely outproduced Jarnkrok

Barely. Bjorkstrand had 57 points the season before he was traded Jarnkrok had 39 that’s 46% more that’s not barely that’s the difference between a top 6 forward and a bottom 6 forward, thrown in Toronto’s cap issue and the league cap issues this year compared to last year and it’s not even close. Like I said at the deadline maybe, before the season not a prayer and my position is just based on logic.

Bjorkstrad isn't a 5 million dollar player. Jarnkrok is absolutely worth 2.1 million. That's why Bjorkstrad went for a 3rd and Jarnkrok will as well. This isn't difficult to understand

Bjorkstrand is obviously a $5M player that’s his contract, that you are such a homer you don’t recognize the literal truth in the Bjorkstrand trade or the Pacciorety trade where he was traded for nothing or that nobody is going to help TML with their cap situation is hilarious. You obviously have difficulty understanding that because if Jarnkrok was worth a 3rd right now he would have been traded long ago. He’s not it’s obvious. Yeah you get the TDL sure but not now

Well firstly, I never did say Jarnkrok is better. I said his contract is better than Bjorkstrad's which is why he went for only a 3rd. But you obviously want to see the leafs bleed, so there is no rational conversation here.
