Edited Sep. 8, 2023 at 2:58 p.m.. Reason: Horvat was 13 not 10
Quoting: PhilsWeiner
Petey also spent like no time playing with Horvat so that point doesnt make much sense lol

He got 7 assists to horvat and 23 to kuzmenko. Those guys were both shooting at HISTORICALLY unsustainable rates.

He was an 85-90 point player last year who got a ton of shooting luck/talent from teammates. Hughes did it with actually quite bad shooting luck/talent from Hischier (7 goals under expectation) and Haula (8 goals below expectation and was especially snakebit on hughes line). overall it balanced out to where the good shooters (Bratt/Hamilton) and the Haula/Hischier balanced out.

Meanwhile Horvat was abt 13 goals above expectation in Van, Kuzmenko was 15, and Miller was 7. Thats 35 goals above expectation to guys who got Pettersson 43 out of his 63 assists. Everyone else was about average with the biggest underperformer being boeser at -3

You saying that Drai is a PP merchant is absolutely hilarious. He’s still better than the other 4 centers on that list and if you don’t count him as a center than he’s better than any winger on that list lol

He’s had 3 average at best regular seasons in a row. Without his playoffs no one would rank him in the top 15.

Eichel has been ranked by the NHL website in the top 10 beforr and just outside of the top 15 in past years, so idk about him not being in anyone's top 15 with the way he's become a 200ft C even if they didn't have a winning run, but I do wonder why he's taken Eichel over Barkov for example. Seems like he's putting too much weight into Eichel's run but I guedd he did help them win. He probably should give nore weight to Draisaitl's last two playoff performances though which weren't all PP points.

how is it cherry picking to note half his points come from being on the pp with mcdavid and him not being good in his own end. mack and eichel have a cup (they were leaders on the team) and matthews is all around better than drai. youre smoking some serious weed to say otherwise.

and im not counting drai as a winger just because he gets put on the LW because he sucks defensively and needs to pad his stats with mcdavid

PP was easy points everyone would put them up, it takes more then one player to make a historic power play

2 player who got Pettersson half of his assists shooting at rates that haven't been seen since the last time a canadian team won a cup is very clear unsustainable production

Leafs got two of the top 5 players according to you and don't produce like EDM does

Petey passed to Horvat a whopping 7 times. Nice use of the stat there man. Its not a bold claim to note petey is much better in his own end and is surrounded by less talent. come on.

matthews scored 60 one season prior but his production fell because he was playing with a wrist injury. you know, the thing you need to use a hockey stick? Also, are you really going to drag out this argument? drai is a pp merchant and not a top 5 c, dont really care if you disagree, make your own list lmao

And TWENTY THREE to kuzmenko who had the highest shooting % since Sergei Marakov in 1990. That's 30, yes thirty, assists to guys shooting at rates we haven't seen since Wayne Gretzky was still playing, IN LA

thats gotta be the most cherry picked stat ive ever seen on this site LMAO. you're actually going to use Horvat's shooting% when petey passed to him a whole 7 times? seriously? how about petey's 39 goals? or his other 33 assists? or how he was 7th in selke voting with insane defensive metrics? I dont see hughes on the PK1 unit?

hughes is incredible, but come on, hes surrounded by so much more talent than petey. petey does near everything on a terrible canucks team and outputs great numbers. he has that forward core on his back. be a bit more realistic and stop cherry picking things.

nada. eichel was a monster in the playoffs and helped lead vegas to a cup. petey scored 100pts with his only reliable linemate being kuzy. petey also had lights out defensive metrics.

Playoffs + regular season.

Eichel 92 pts in 89 GP (1.03)
Hughes 110 pts in 90 GP (1.22)

It might not be Hughes yet, but it’s certainly not Eichel in top-5.

13 of his other 33 assists went to JT Miller, another elite finisher, and like I mentioned those 30 assists turning into 17-20 with normal shooting means he's and 85-90 point player. Which is what he is, a tier below hughes offensively
