Zegras

Initial Creation Date: Sep. 23, 2023

Description
Rangers definitely don’t do it, but I wouldn’t think about trading Zegras unless this was the type of offer coming back, however unrealistic it may be. I will say a move like this makes the defense a serious liability.

I know you said rangers don't do it but that fact that you put laf (former first oa) miller (40 points dman) and 2 first as a 20 point difference between chytil and zegras is wild. Also chytil can actually play defense unlike zegras.

The Zegras situation so similar to the Nylander situation. No team is going to trade what would be needed to get those guys, but Anaheim and Toronto would need to get a HAUL to justify the trade of either. Not happening.

I can see Anaheim needing a haul but Nylander is a ufa after this season and aren't going to lose him for nothing unless they keeping him as a rental and are fine losing him

I’m 100% with you guys on this. I’m just saying I wouldn’t look to move him if I were Anaheim unless someone drastically overpaid for him such as above.

If that’s what it would take to get him, that’s a very easy pass. Way too much talent thats relevant now, in the longer term, and in the future for one player- who looks like he may be a budding star in this league….but still has an awful lot to prove beyond the fancy gimmick plays.

Oh I agree with you completely. I think Toronto is VERY unrealistic about: 1. Their ability to get Nylander signed for a reasonable price. 2. Their ability to get value in return for Nylander. Gonna be VERY interesting to watch that situation play out.

That’s one I would do. I’m not sold on Miller. I’ve got a feeling we are going to overpay him on his next deal and regret it. I’m not sure why though, but I feel like it might happen.

Rangers are more in need of chytil and miller than the ducks would be, so take those two off, laffy value is? Imo zegras value is second level to the top of offersheet value of 2 firsts/1second/1third. So laffy a 1st,2nd, and a 3rd type deal or a laffy plus 2 firsts and a 3rd. Rangers aren’t giving up two actual firsts, so prospects and laffy, plus maybe a first and a third or something along those lines. Ducks probably in two steps back mode so probably a youthful package is the ask. Don’t quite understand why the ducks aren’t just gambling on 8x8 or whatever gets it done with zegras, just on the thought that without zegras, do they not have to tear it down again and restart the 5 year plan again.

yeah...I'd do that too- would probably add to Miller to get it done. Miller (similar to Zegras) has a lot to prove. Sure he does get the points- but his D is at times atrocious, and he is far too reliant on using his reach to poke check. But Miller is a superior athlete who became a Dman late in his development- so (especially in a position where big guys take longer to hit their peak in NHL) his ceiling is still sky high all the while being a top 4 Dman at the moment. In the end, though I have a feeling NYR will have to choose between Lindgren and Miller. Lindgren has his own concerns- but down the line he'll be significantly cheaper than Miller.

Completely agree with you on that analysis.
