The sabres. Dahlin is well above both players and we have no need for a center.

I’m not the biggest Drysdale fan so I’d reject as Buffalo

Not that Buffalo would ever do this, but would rather have Luneau than Drysdale. But this trade would never happen.

Buffalo is right there for the playoffs. Doing this would push their playoff timeline down the road too far.

Even tho I think the best player involved is going to the ducks here I actually think it would set them back at the same time. Unless there is a plan in place to replace Zegras for the next 7-10 years that can be implemented immediately this would just create an extra hole in an already light line up. It might not be a popular take but I see this working out much worse for the ducks.

The Sabres. I can't imagine dahlin being available for anything reasonable. Plus zegras doesn't fill an obvious need- we have Thompson and cozens at #1/#2 center (both signed long term for 7m ea), zegras doesn't provide an obvious upgrade over either. Both Thompson and cozens have provided offense, with awful to below average defense, zegras doesn't provide an obvious upgrade there. The Sabres have what appears to be quantity of quality at the wings, maybe nothing elite, but very good overall, so I don't see a huge need to trade for zegras and put him on a wing. With Thompson and cozens both having holes in their defensive game (although I expect cozens to take a big step this year), a third line center that can help with the defensive stuff, win a faceoff, kill a penalty, play a solid two way game- would make a lot more sense to me (hoping Krebs can do it). At the end of the day, zegras would be a luxury pick up, which isn't something you consider trading dahlin for, and Drysdale doesn't make up the difference.

The only way I could see this happening if Dahlin flat out refused to sign. But I think there would have to be deals in place to make it work that I don't think would happen

Edited Sep. 26, 2023 at 2:31 p.m.. Reason: improved grammar
I think that neither team would accept because both teams are pretty happy with where they are now. Buffalo would probably decline faster because whereas Zegras looks to be All-Star material and Drysdale could eventually be, Dahlin is a franchise player and a cut above an "ordinary, run-of-the-mill" All-Star.
