If I’m the Hawks, I’m pushing for one of Ottawa’s two 1st round picks this coming draft; with the Senator’s talented young core, there is a strong possibility that 1st round pick in 2026 is later and less valuable. Additionally, the Hawks don’t want to be in rebuild mode for ever, let’s get the drafted player in the organization as soon as possible so the development staff can get to work on making the future 1st rounder NHL ready as soon as possible.

I agree. But I also think whatever team takes the contract shouldn't let OTT off too easy, either. It's a catch-22 that Dorion never should have allowed to happen. On paper he is the obvious odd man out while still being somewhat desirable, but OTT needs the cap space, reducing their negotiating power. I'm definitely interested to see how it all turns out, though. Sure, CHI has a ton of cap space, but with how many forwards they already have, I don't see them being the team to do it without a substantial payment.

I agree with this from an acquiring team's perspective, but from Ottawa's perspective, they don't HAVE to make a trade to become cap compliant. It would leave them with only 18 skaters and 2 goalies but it's doable. Meaning they aren't COMPLETELY leveraged. If teams are asking for a 1st to take Joseph, they should just waive him and save $1.15M and give that to Pinto in addition to the $895k of space they currently have.

It's not like they 100% need to offload someone, it just puts them in a really ****ty spot if they don't but i'd rather risk it until someone gets hurt over giving a 1st to offload a useful yet overpaid player.

Well, that depends what Pinto and his agent are asking for. We can't just assume that'll be enough. But, yeah, they'll take that, it could work.

Pinto's ask is 2.5M x 2

Ottawa is not going to trade a 1st round pick in a scenario like this

Ottawa is cap compliant at the moment. Pinto will be left unsigned until there's a solution, which will 99% most likely be an injury on the Sens or another team (need for Kubalik or even Joseph will increase)

Hawks only got 2nd + 4th for a full cap dump. No chance they get a 1st for a player that was only overpaid last season and will most likely not be again for the next 3 years

Oh. Ok. I wasn't sure if that was confirmed or if it was just people speculating.

I have to think of that’s all Pinto is asking for them the deal would be done already.

I don’t see this situation getting resolved until the very last minute. There is no point in Dorian making a trade right now, if he was to deal Joseph and 1st to a team to become cap compliant today and then another player gets hurt in camp
or an exhibition game and goes LTIR he would look really foolish.

I think similar to the Dickinson deal last year, a trade will happen on Canadian Thanksgiving weekend.
