Early Idea of 24-25

Created by: Pat_Foley
Team: 2024-25 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 5, 2023
Published: Oct. 5, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Overall: Maintain long-term flexibility with Reichel's 7 year deal being only deal with true term.

- Reichel 7x7 seems fair if he puts up a very good season
- Burn Year on Nazar's Entry Level Deal when his season at Michigan is over.
- Sign Toffoli to similar deal to Palat for NJ but 1MM more AAV with less term.
- Not interested in paying for Reinhart, Nylander won't happen and he's still an upgrade.
- Most controversial: I made the markstrom move just to get to the floor, believe Kurashev won't be a long term piece, they might want to dump him, we probably deal a draft pick or two this offseason and steady goaltending would be worth it for the young d-core. This is a throw a dart idea that likely will be criticized by both fans but oh well.
- Duclair is fast, upgrade over Kurashev for a year before Nazar is ready to take a top 6 spot full time. Could be a deadline deal if Nazar forces the issue.
- Could also deal Donato if that doesn't work out, move Duclair to 3LW and Nazar 2RW.
- Raddysh gets 3x3 as he will be a solid 3rd line RW for us I hope for a few years.
- One year stop gap at 3RD with Colin Miller, can hold it down for a while until Nolan Allen, or someone can be fully good to go on RD as a lefty.
- Resign Lafferty as he is still what we are looking for in a player and KD's first good move. Hopefully not a Bowman level trend, just a guy we all liked.
- 1 year deal for Guttman before deciding what to do with him.

Team likely aiming for an 80 point season.

Conservative Estimate assuming we make one deadline sell move - someone like Tyler Johnson at 50% retained - not sure on details. Picked Pittsburgh because our likely sell pieces are the older guys.

    Additional Details:
Flames end up selling when all their free agents leave (whether traded or not) and want to clear the top spot for Wolf while unloading some cap. Get a useful forward off a solid year, goalie depth and a mid 2nd rounder and a 4th in 2025.

Instead of Tofolli pay up the premium for Nylander. He's better and fits the timeline better

Not if his next contract is gonna cost anywhere close to his rumored asking price. I'd stay away from that one

Some good ideas here. Markstrom has been up in Canada for 10 years now. Not sure he's waiving at what's likely the end of his career to go to another team unless it's a legit cup contender. And Kurashev would have to have a monstar year for Calgary to consider that offer anyway. Reichel at 7x7 seems unlikely but I guess anything is possible.

9 would be my absolute max for Nylander. Would feel way better if it started with a 8

7x7 for Reichel? He's gonna have to put up a pretty spectacular year.

On par with Suzuki and Boldy's extensions, factored in with the rising cap over the next few years.

Enjoy mediocrity. You'll be in 8th in the West and not want to sell your players who will leave in the offseason, then be bottom feeders again only to build back up and have your players not want to live in Calgary again in 5-10 years. Have fun!

Suzuki had back to back 40 point seasons and 120+ NHL games
Boldy had 39 points in 47 games.

Reichel has 16 points in 34 NHL games. Like I said he better have a monster season if you give him that money.

Zegras had 2 60 point seasons and got 3x6

Damn you told me, thats why Backlund signed an extension right? Because he didn't want to be in Calgary. Thats why insiders are saying Lindholm is likely to extend too right?

Just because you have no clue what a No Move Clause is doesn't mean you have to get salty about it. Go look it up instead. Chicago isn't going to make the playoffs for at least 4 more years, Calgary will probably make the playoffs is at least 3 of those next 4 years. So tell me, why would Markstrom waive to Chicago?

Oh that wasn't related to Markstrom that was more a comment on the city of Calgary in general and losing Tkatchuk and Geaudreau your best players since iginla for next to nothing. Backlund wouldn't get more and reports dont matter, action does.
