Massively overpaying for Laf at this point. The guy just doesn't have it. He looked like total trash this preseason.

i wouldn't put too much stock in his preseason performance only because ALL the vets looked like trash. I'm not giving up on LaF...but an offer like that Drury would really have to think about moving on.

Man this is a tough one for LA, 40 goal scorer signed for 3 years for 1 year of Guentzel and Jeff Carter who has not lived up to his contract at all.

Three seasons of Adrian Kempe for one season of Jake Guentzel and a future first? Our window of contention is just opening up. One year from now, we'd be without Kempe OR Guentzel with only a pending first to show for it, which would be taking a big step BACK from where we'd be without this egregiously foolish trade. No, thanks.

Absolutely no reason to reconstruct our cap-limit roster to take on useless mouth Jeff Carter, even if a first were attached to him.

Bottom line: two amazingly AWFUL trades for Los Angeles.

Preseason doesn't count, except for giving the coaches a chance to see what works and what doesn't. Do you still want Laf in over Othmann and Cuylee at this point?
Veterans will look like crap going 60% because they know their spot is safe....Laf did not and does have have that luxury with Lavs.

At worst, LaF is a 3rd line player. All his production has been 5x5- so it's not as terrible as some seem to believe. But he has underwhelmed for a 1OA. For now I want LaF in the lineup over Cuylle and Othmann. LaF needs a long look under Lav in whatever role Lav has for him. Then mid season to TDL NYR can assess their options with LaF going forward. Any decision regarding Cuylle or Othmann is independent of any decision involving LaF. And don't want to rush either to the NHL.

Two things,

If Laf at his lowest is a 3rd line, I agree...but...his height may be a decent 2LW? Maybe? He hasn't really shown that either. While it is true the Rangers are under no rush to trade him, so they should take top dollar, there is the other side of the trade.

PIT's 2026 pick could be AWESOME, let alone if it was lottery protected as it won't get any better.

PIT is built on old legs of amazing players...but in two more years those wheels are falling off. PIT got Karlsson for maybe the next two years of the team being good, but 38 year old Crosby by then? 39 year old Malkin?

If Laf ain't it, this would be a steal for NYR in futures, and just make Cuylle your 3rd line winger as Laf is not top 6 on this squad.

Geunzle has had consistency throughout his career. Kempe was producing at 3rd liner stats for most of his career.

Lol, 2 full seasons isn’t enough sample size for you? To put Kempe into perspective, LA hasn’t had a 40 goal scorer since the mid-90s and Kempe hasn’t had the luxury of playing with Crosby. How much do you think Guentzel is going to get paid next season, because I can assure you it’s a lot more than Kempe is getting paid for the next 3z
