Reaves to the minors just makes the most sense

Created by: leafs101
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 8, 2023
Published: Oct. 8, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
1) 36 year old, 3 year deal at 1.35M - is anyone claiming him? Guys like Gregor and Lafferty would be scooped up immediately
2) On ice impact he's the worst forward we have. If Minten does well he's far more valuable than him, as are again guys like Lafferty, Jarnkrok, Gregor
3) Injuries happen - Reavo will be back up in no time I'm sure.
4) If we lose him, which is unlikely - did we really lose that big of an on-ice contributor? Nope.

Jones gets waived later after teams like Tampa grab a goalie.

I don't think there's 'waive them later' at this point. Roster submissions need to be in tomorrow which means players need to be sent through waivers today.

im not saying I think it WILL happen, but it SHOULD. I'd be quite surprised to see Reaves not clear. I wouldn't put it past the Leafs to do it though I don't foresee it.

I think Reaves is crucial for the Leafs this year.
He brings something no other player can bring.
Just having him on the bench is already a boost for the young players.

His bad contract will prevent him from being claimed but it would be hilarious if he was

He brings absolutely nothing significant to any roster that kyle clifford, wayne simmonds or any other punch face 4th liner didnt bring

Zero chance he gets waived. Don't mess with his vibe. He instantly transformed my NYR, same MIN, VGK. He pumps up the boys and let's them play fearless. He sucks and is way too slow, yet helpful on the bench like it or not. Maybe mid season, but not anytime soon.

He brings protection. But I hear ya. Not much more than those other guys, you're right.
Basically, the question is: do you need to have a fighter/enforcer/police on your team or not.
I see which way you're leaning lol

Cheers mate!

Protection is a myth. Enforcers are revenge tools and nothing else, and 95% of the time they just take revenge on the other teams tough guy. In fact teams with guys like reaves have more injuries than teams without them.
Not even wendel clark, who was on the ice with the stars when stuff happenes prevented it, or lucic or wilson or anyone else you can name

Toughness is contagious. When you know someone has your back you can play more physical. Domi, Bertuzzi, Lafferty and McCabe will all play more physical as well because they have Reaves on the bench.

Nope, but there is zero evidence that anyone in the history of the world could predict what players would have chemistry, and im pretty confident bad 4th liners dont make good teams any better in that department.
We can like players like reaves because they seem fun and not invent magic powers of dressing room cohesion for them

Reaves should be waived 100%

How has Robertson looked during the preseason?

I dont think hes getting waived unless there is an emergency like someone gets hurt and they need a bit of extra space.

Keefe has praised his line and through looking up and down the lineup it seems the odd man out is Timmins.

No spot or role with the team considering Rielly and Klingberg. His contract and injury should make it doable to slip him through waivers.

Now sure they may do the Simmonds thing with Reaves but idk I think they have another plan in mind.

Reaves is fine, I'm more concerned about the overpayment Dubas gave to Jarnkrok who goes invisible once the playoffs start

whether all of that is true or false - do you really think he gets claimed? I'm not even necessarily saying this is a long term thing, there will be injuries and he could probably be up for most of the season. But in terms of finding the best way to keep all the best players around it might be the best option

2.1M for 20 goals and playing anywhere in the lineup is a hard contract to look at and REALLY be upset. I'm not a fan of the Klingberg deal, and Kampf should at most get Janrkrok's deal.

Havent had time to watch much preseason but looks fine from what I read, but there's just so much competition and he's missed a lot of hockey. Sounds like a sustained run in the AHL to let him build some momentum with callup potential is the likely course of action

even if Timmins is out it doesnt solve the issue entirely. And I think Timmins gone is a mistake. He may be the 7th D but the 7th D usually ends up playing the majority of games, always have an injury or two.

what has reaves done in the playoffs? Theres a reason he ends up a healthy scratch by the end of every run he's ever been on. At the very least you can trust Jarnkrok defensively to be on the ice at all times, that's the floor whether he's producing or not.

Actually throw his weight around for the 7-10 minutes of ice time he gets and injects fear into his opponents. What has Jarnkrok done outside of being scared of his own shadow when the playoffs role around?

you can trust Jarnkrok to be out there and not be a complete liability to pace of play and defensive detail. Can't say the same for Reaves. Again, there's a reason why Reaves ends up being a healthy scratch in the playoffs year after year - the standard of play is higher and his fighting doesn't make up for his inability to play the game at the NHL pace when it comes down to it.

That's why I hope he passes through and history does show guys with term and coming back from injury have a higher chance to pass through

And if he's sent down they can run a 20 man team is it ideal no but its doable
