So you just used our last two retention slots and all we have to show for it is Garland and a couple of later round picks? That's absolutely terrible asset management.

I know Pagnotti tied the Hawks to Garland, but I just don't see it. Especially in a deal like this where the Hawks actually pay to acquire him. Burn a retention slot and give up a pick? And is Garland even an upgrade from Tyler Johnson?

I'd prefer we don't do this trade.

I know Garland isn't very valuable but he is worth more than a pure cap dump imo. I think he will get a similar return to Bjorkstrand (3rd + 4th, and that's with no other salary going back the other way).

I can’t take either of the trade suggestions as serious. Both are ridiculous.

I have to agree with my fellow Hawks fans, these are both really bad for Chicago.

The only way it could kinda work is something around a Murphy-Garland swap but I don't think the Canucks would wanna give up major assets for a 30 year old

When Bjorkstrand was traded there were far more teams that had the cap flexibility to take on his contract, currently there are about 6/7 teams that even have the space for Garland’s deal. Of those teams, a couple like Detroit and Buffalo need to be careful because they have bigger deals starting next season (Dahlin, Power) or young players (Seidel/Raymond) who will require new deals moving forward.

That deal would be even worse for the Hawks. No chance the Hawks give up Murphy to get Garland.

Obviously, it wouldn't be a direct swap. Chicago would get futures or whatever lol

not sure why the Islanders would need to add more bottom-6 guys to a roster that feels like it's already 90% bottom-6 guys, but I don't see these guys being targets for them when they could better use their assets to target more offensively-minded players. at the same time, though, i have no idea why chicago would flip out these two guys, with retention on Dickinson, for basically nothing. the retention spot is the biggest issue for me - i would much rather use that on a potential taylor hall or nick foligno trade than burn it on jason dickinson.
