Umm, no, 2x1.75M isn't expensive by any means for what he provides. That's less than what Martinook gets, he plays center, he is right-handed, and is becoming excellent at faceoffs. It's precisely the reason why I'm talking about him.

Provide energy on the 4th line, relentless forechecker, good at faceoffs and plays PK … has offense in him when he’s not playing with dead carcasses. The only thing he doesn’t have to make him a perfect 4th line center is seize (throwing big hits). Other than that, he is basically what you want from your 4C …

Our 4th liners don’t play PK. Adding 1.75 million to next year’s cap (which is going to be very, very tight) for a marginal upgrade at our lowest ice time player isn’t a good move

They do if it's Martinook or Fast (one of them is going to slot down with Svech back). I imagine that next year's cap isn't going to be too tight, because it usually never is (it would not shock me if all of Turbo, Skjei, Martinook, and Pesce get well-overpaid elsewhere). The whole point is that not overpaying high-profile UFAs allows room for your 3rd and 4th liners to not be a cobbled-together hellscape of ELCs and dumpster-diving UFAs like in Toronto.

Evans is making 1.7M not 1.75M
Us, Habs fans with hockey knowledge, know our GM wouldn’t trade 27 yo Jake Evans for a 3rd round pick … Trading him would just create a hole on our 4th line and lose a well loved teammate. All that for a 3rd round pick who will probably never play a NHL game
