Description
If the Carter healthy scratch era continues, I could see him looking elsewhere to finish out his career. I think he believes he still has something left in the tank, and he wants to play still. I'm not sure if that means another year in the NHL. But he's still playing for a reason, so I think he'd want to continue to play, not sit in the press box. I think Columbus might take him.

Rakell really hasn't shown much on the scoresheet, but he's still having an effect on the ice. I think Sully should slot him with Sid for a little to maybe give him some spark, but if nothing can get him going, maybe a change of scenery is the answer. Pittsburgh and Vancouver are best buds when it comes to trades, and VAN has been shopping Garland. I think this trade could be feasible.

Van just can't take on Rakell's term. Garland is doing fine in Van. Only way he gets his trade request completed is if it reduces the cap or helps the defense. Not sure Pitt has the right combination of pieces for this to work.

We might as well just keep Garland at that point. Rakell is too expensive to be considered a true upgrade on Garland. Joseph is nice but he's left-handed.

The value is decent it's just not what we need atm

Rakell had 28 goals and 60 points last year, which is 11 more goals and 14 more points than Garland. That's only with a $50,000 higher cap hit. There's a ton of defense pieces that I'm sure the Pens would be willing to give u[. Yes, most of them are lefties, but most can play their offside.

"I think Columbus might take him."

Hoo boy...my brother in Christ, you couldn't find a team that wants Jeff F***ing Carter less. It would take your next 3 firsts just for us to take him, and only then because we could scratch him every night and make him sit at the back of the upper deck.

No one is taking Carter, he is staying with the Penguins. I don't understand the continued magical thoughts that "oh someone surely will take him". If he's getting scratched in Pittsburgh, no team is going to want to touch him, and he's not going to want to go anywhere.

Pens fans need to relax on Rakell. He hasn't produced points wise this year, but he's played well. As soon as he gets one the flood gates will open. Plus van doesn't want that contract.

He’d retire if his choice was that or Columbus, and I dunno, the opportunity to Lady Tyrell “i want [him] to know it was me” to end his career would be some nice schadenfreude.

It's not that Rakell isn't an upgrade over Garland, but I don't think he's as a big of an upgrade as you are say. It's that he isn't a good fit. The Canucks aren't looking for another winger, the whole point of trading Garland is to move money and term off the wing. Rakell makes that worse not better. Also if the Canucks were adding wingers, they want to add even strength scoring, the top PP is sest.

Garlands last 3 seasons EVG: 15, 18, 9
Rakell last 3 seasons EVG: 17, 15, 9

That's not really an upgrade, especially once you control for even strength time on ic.

That's my point. Rakell is too expensive to bring in, Vancouver wants cap space and a RHD not a slightly better winger.

Van needs $20 mil + next year for Pettersson and Hronek, we can't have a $5 million dollar third liner

I think that has a lot to do with the fact that Rakell had more than twice the amount of PP time that Garland had. And I'm pretty sure Rakell was PP1 last year.

They both had a 1.8 points/60 at 5v5. Rakell is not a material upgrade on Garland at all. He just had better production because of more favourable deployment, which he wouldn't get in Vancouver. Rakell likely wouldn't crack PP1 here with Boeser and Kuzmenko already as right hand shots on PP1. He might be more productive than Garland on PP2, but it wouldn't justify taking on the longer contract. Garland only has two years left

Someone signed Jack Johnson x3.. Someone traded a 2nd for Granlund.. So never say never. If salary was held I can see a path to a trade for a RH 4C in a different system. But that is still more of a wish than hope..
