This is probably one of the easiest Montreal declines I’ve seen on this website

Why on earth would Montreal take this deal? He's locked in until 2027 and they have to sit on that for 4 season and get a 1st and prospect for it? Lol

The term on Campbell's deal makes this a complete non-starter for Montreal, even if the 1st is somewhat tempting.

Montreal probably considers this. Campbell in the minors make his cap hit at around the same as Allen’s and that unprotected first could be pretty good

Holloway wasn’t great at Wisconsin…Caufield carried that team after Turcotte and Miller left

Holloway was one of the best forwards in the entire NCAA in his DY+1 year and was top-5 (5th) in primary points per game and was 3rd in points per game (both minimum of 10 GP). Caufield was good but I wouldn't discredit Holloway. Still like him, would consider that trade for Campbell if I were the Flyers, especially with an unprotected EDM 1st. Not sure if they have any goaltender to send back, however.

I follow big-10 rather closely, so am not talking out of my area. I know the point totals looked good, but badgers were 100% the Caulfield show that year…and especially down the stretch, Holloway’s star faded as Caufield’s rose. It’s not like they were some dynamic duo.

I just now saw the OP's original note about how they played on the same team in college and how that might influence them in the trade. Agree they don't necessarily have a connection and that narrative might not hold water in the trade market, but I was more so commenting that Holloway was one of the best players in the NCAA that year and one of the best DY+1 campaigns from a point production and efficiency standpoint in a long time (for the NCAA). I wouldn't mind him in a deal for the Flyers to take on Campbell's contract, still think he's a solid player and has room to grow.

its a massive gamble for montreal, that first can end up being a top 10 pick but also be from 16 and up, too big of a risk for montreal IMO

To big of a risk? We all know that MTL is in the best case scenario won’t be a playoff team for the next 2 season. We have plenty of cap space and a lot of player that will be on entry level deal. You can run with Campbell as your number 2 until one of Dobes, Fowler or another goalie prospect is ready. Mtl is still a couple of piece away from being a contending team, we need to continue to add high assets.

his contract wont end in 2 years, and not trusting your goalie to make a save has a negative affect on the players, i mean just look at the way the EDM plyers are playing and the body language and effort they putt in... it could really hurt the development of the young D
