No reason for the Canucks to trade Kuzmenko for futures

This is not rebuilding. This is rushing to try and be competitive and giving up picks and prospects to do so, only to still have an average team

That 1st round pick would be worth a lot. Probably net a RHD and a good winger

Exactly. That first round pick will probably be a top two pick.

So a team trying to tank trades a potentially high first for a top-six winger on a short contract, and a team trying to compete trades a top-six winger who has fit well for a potentially high first that they then have to try to turn into two players, one of which will hopefully replace the winger they just traded...

I guess if you think the Canucks can swap it for some premium players they do it, but there is absolutely zero reason why San Jose does this.

How did you think that Arizona deal was even remotely acceptable to Arizona?

Canucks decline. We're competeing, trading a top 6 winger for futures makes no sense, especially when that top 6 winger is playing well, is a great fit, and has amazing chemsitry with our superstar.

you really think AZ is going to give you hayton to move up 10-15 spots in the 4th. Not even TML would come up with that ridiculous proposal

Canucks will not have a budget to keep Kuzmenko as they need to re-sign Pettersson (11-13MM), and Hronek (8MM) + OEL buyout will eat 2.3MM-4.7MM yearly.

Canucks easily have more than enough cap space to keep their current core in tact. They have Myers ($6M), Beauvillier ($4M), and Cole ($3M) all coming off the books, plus the cap is projected to go up $4M this offseason. That's nearly $20M in space just from that alone, which is more than enough to cover raises for Pettersson ($12M) and Hronek ($7.5M), as those contract points only add $8M to their cap. Myers coming off the books alone is nearly enough to cover Petey and Hronek. Canucks are fine, but if someone needs to go to make cap space, Kuzmenko is one of the last people that will be. Garland and Beauvillier are both wingers who are far less important than Kuzmenko and will be gone lightyears before the Canucks would even consider moving Kuzy. Kuzmenko is under contract for 2 seasons anyways, by the time he needs a raise at the end of his current deal the Canucks cap situation will be looking completely different with tons of money having come off the books as well as the cap going up a handsome amount.

that takes it out of TML level, but AZ still passes. hayton isnt scoring but he does all the non scoreboard things pretty well. last year his first 30 games had 0G/3A and ended 19/24/43pts.
