Wishful thinking

Created by: hockeynutter
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 9, 2023
Published: Nov. 9, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The wishful thinking is a swap of picks and prospects for salary cutting both teams where Chicago gets prospects whom hopefully quicker to dance as well as higher of assets of drafts convinces them to make the trade. Jones at 9.5mil is too much but just over 5 to replace Brodie whom can be replaced after the year. This is a wishful thinking idea that maybe can workout?
Trades
TOR
  1. Jones, Seth ($4,250,000 retained)
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (OTT)
  3. 2026 2nd round pick (TOR)
CHI
  1. Klingberg, John
  2. Tverberg, Ryan
  3. Voit, Ty
  4. 2024 1st round pick (TOR)
  5. 2024 5th round pick (CHI)
  6. 2026 3rd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Wishful thinking, but also to be able to get a legit top pairing Blueline seems crazy, but maybe a prospects, salary saving for both teams(9.5mil for jones is steep) and changing around picks where Chicago still gets the better asseta of picks and decent prospects, jones goes from being top guy in an area he isn't suited for to assisting top guy for a more manageable salary.

That package doesn't pay for the almost 30 mil in retention let alone a top pair RD.

CHI not retaining for 7 years on Jones. If Toronto is getting a "top pairing" d man at $5.25m they are giving up wayyyy more.

Again title wishful thinking. Klingberg as reported by analysts was signed to a deal to potentially allow a type of Barrie for Ekholm deal Edmonton did but at the same time for the Leafs to actually improve the d, the only thing I see is a wishful thinking miracle with some small degree of realism. Maybe 5% chance. Lol

I’m not a Hawks fan, but this proposal is ABSURD

1- you’re simply not getting Chicago to retain that much on Jones- not for 6 + seasons

2- even if they were willing to do so, the compensation you’re giving them is NOWHERE CLOSE to enough

Even if u take away the 2nd & 3rd that u have the Leafs getting,
it’s still not getting done- not even close

That’s how absurd this trade proposal is
Sorry to be harsh, but it’s really bad dude

That's all fine and dandy but the trade you proposed is batsht crazy. Hawks would fire the gm on the spot.

Woah no chance they get an Ekholm type player in any deal with Kling!

Take seth jones out of the trade completely and it's so much closer to being realistic.

Once again no argument here. The title wishful thinking. It was what a couple analysts reported which well to even be remotely possible.klingberg needs to better prove himself a power play specialist, from crazy thinking about timelines with with contention on hawks, and a loss of potential where hawks think less of jones. I could say more reasons where such a trade will always be wishful thinking.

Feels like CHI would move Jones for the right deal, but retention would be a deal-breaker. The player is probably available but nobody is going to kneecap a rebuild by tying up a retention slot for 7 years.
