Sanheim Hart at TD - Willie out

Created by: Connor_McJesus_97
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 21, 2023
Published: Nov. 21, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Controversial and radical but hey maybe Leafs needs a blockbuster like this to change things up?
Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Hart, Carter ($979,000 retained)
  2. Sanheim, Travis
Additional Details:
Hart would be a great tender for the Leafs. The one they need and he works as a long term solution. Sanheim will be a fantastic top 4 defenseman who should be able to do everything that Klingberg was expected to do and more.
PHI
  1. Klingberg, John
  2. Knies, Matthew
  3. Minten, Fraser
  4. Niemelä, Topi
  5. Samsonov, Ilya
  6. 2024 1st round pick (TOR)
  7. 2024 3rd round pick (NYI)
  8. 2026 1st round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
If Toronto makes it past the 2nd round this 3rd pick becomes a 2027 2nd pick

Niemelä will replace Sanheim although he will of course not be as good but still a solid prospect. Klingberg is here to make it work capwise. Knies is a great player for Philly to get and he suits their style aswell. Samsonov gets a well needed change. Minten is another decent prospect who will be able to add more depth to Philly prospect pool.
2.
TOR
  1. Dadonov, Evgeni
  2. Dellandrea, Ty
  3. Faksa, Radek ($1,625,000 retained)
  4. Stankoven, Logan
  5. 2024 1st round pick (DAL)
  6. 2024 2nd round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
Chicago will retain 1.625m on Faksa and gets Dallas 5th pick 2024
The 2nd pick turns into a 2025 1st if Dallas wins the stanley cup or if Nylander scores more than 20 points in the playoffs
DAL
  1. Nylander, William
Additional Details:
This is sad but they simply can't afford him. Better to let him go then.
3.
TOR
CHI
  1. 2025 3rd round pick (TOR)
  2. 2025 5th round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Chicago also get these 2 picks for their retention

PHI might be very tempted, and maybe dumb not to take it

Dont know if DAL moves all that, unless a re-sign is in place

Leafs don't do either trade...

And what do you mean shake-up? They are on a 4 game winning streak

Oil fan frustrated - throwing grenades 😅; hope you feel better. No chance Leafs make either move 🤦🏻

I agree.

Although I think the leafs do need something, they have a couple of players playing out of their mind and still are just 4th-5th, and lacking picks and impact prospects, they do need to find a way to get some youth in, try and play liljegren/timmins AND be cap compliant, but changing out 4 starters and their remaining high picks and highest prospects in system isn;t the way.

But I get the sentiment of the ACGM above, that quality costs quality

What are you going on about? Marner has yet to find his groove. Bertuzzi and Domi still settling in. Sammy struggling but on the way up. The Leafs have Minten & Cowan and to a lesser extent Niemela - all are impact prospects (top 6 / top 4 RHD). Leafs need to add 1 D for sure, another D + 3rd liner (physical) would be ideal.

I do think there needs to be shakeup as well, but Knies is untouchable rn and the leafs are on a winning streak so when it ends on Friday, that's when you make a move...

I think Lilly is super underrated rn and he provides a ton of positive value, he's also really played well with McCabe... So that's good

I would go after Zadorov to change the team's sphere... And if the Leafs were to go and trade Nylander... Trouba w retention (2 mill from Rangers... and 2 mill from another team) and picks + prospects would be the route IMO...

That way you have 4 hard-nosed defensemen and 3/4 of them can skate pretty well... I would finish it off with some middle 6 forward additions like Dube etc. and intimidate your way through rounds...

You'll have to find a different team to retain. The Hawks have two slots left and they'll be sellers at the TDL. I'm sure they can get much better returns retaining on their own guys.

Leafs have the 10th best record in the league, and things aren’t as bad as the fans think they are. I don’t see why you really need to blow things up like this.

Knies is quite literally untouchable in a trade. You would have to make the leafs an offer that is impossible to reject (if Knies is going the other way).
