Eh I don't know. If it means getting rid of Campbell it would be a worthy sacrifice

So I think that's a deal the Habs would have to take

He's their D with the most potential, on a good contract and young, he's exactly the kind of player the Oilers should keep

What the oilers need to do at this point is capitalize on Mcdavid and Drai still being here. Bouch is a great player don't get me wrong and I'm not eager to move him but if it means freeing up 5 million in dead weight + get 3 solid depth pieces I would do it

The price of taking Campbell's contract is rumoured to be 2 x 1st rounders alone. Taking that into consideration, I don't think Monahan should be included.
This deal would kill Mtl for 3 years tho. And anger all the Franco québécois.

If this deal would happen tho I'd prefer for Savard to be half retained so another move for a top-4 d-man can be made

I agree and we could instead of dropping Monahan, drop Savard instead and retain on Monahan to get the Oil to add a 2nd for the retention. This allows the Oil to add a D man of their choice with the almost 5 mil cap space

Bouchard is likely untouchable for Edmonton

And Monty is as much untouchable so this deal is totally unrealistic

From Habs fan to Habs fan, it is not even close to the same, Bouchard is a 24 year old point per game right shot right defenseman on a great contract, Montembeault is one of the most inconsistent goalies I have ever watched, in the last 10 games of last year, he only had 2 games where he was in between a 0.890 and 0.920 SV%. He had 5 games below and 3 games over, this year he has been better but it is still a mixed bag.

I have my own thoughts about the trade but in terms of just Bouchard and Montembault, It's not comparable.

This trade doesn't make sense on multiple levels. First, why would Montreal give up Monahan in this deal when they can do more with him as a stand alone trade chip. Secondly, why would Edmonton get rid of Bouchard and cripple their already weak defence, when they could just throw picks and prospects at the problem if they really need to get rid of Campbell. Lastly, why would Edmonton take Savard? He has been super injury prone and unreliable, the whole point of this deal for Edmonton is to move Campbell money out while also getting a goaltender, and the only reason they would need to trade with Montreal is because they are one of the few, if not the only team that have a goalie on the market and would be willing to take the money of Campbell.

Montembault is definitely not untouchable, he's a 2A goalie and Montreal doesn't exactly need to keep him, it'd make sense to keep Montembault for Montreal but it's not like he's a surefire part of their future

He is litterally the goalie of the future and HuGo said multiple times he was the only near untouchable goalie in the system

If Montembault is the goalie of the future in Montreal, you have a serious goalie problem

He is a decent starter. Maybe Volokhin or Fowler will be better but for now Monty is the goalie of the future
