Hopefully Lou will either retire or be fired, I say this knowing nothing will change. BUT if there was to be change. (MANIFESTING ERIC TULSKY) this is my take on the 1-2 year Rebuild, YES REBUILD, SCREW RETOOLS. I'm going after Prospects that need a fresh start since I can't see anyone, but Nelson, fetching a 1st round Pick. (And he with my trade, it math's out to a 1st)
First Cal, UFA, Boston needs playoff grit, Patrick brown has been meh, Bos Upgrades for cheap, Fabian is a B level prospect and 2 useless picks to make it fancy looking, with a clause Boston hopes comes true.
This one hurts, Matty, look he's good in the playoffs, good morale guy too. Panthers just seem like the right fit. 100% screw you energy. Just get picks, more darts for the dart board. Gadjovich for the money to work
Aho, Tampa needs cheap D-Men, seems like a Tampa move too. I feel like they might not be fleeced, but in a more haggle-able state since they'd feel the NEED to do something. A 3rd seems like a lot for Aho, but I feel like its realistic. Idk, a 4th was my original bid. Myers cause of money.
NEXT! Nelson, UFA 2025 age 34, Ship him out while he still has value. 50% retained 3 mil for 1.25 ish years good for a 50-60 point guy and why not get experimental. Turcotte needs a fresh start and Thomas does too. Islanders need scorers and why not let the kids run wild. 5th rounder for a resign idk, get something for nothing you know? Other options could send Nelson to the Blues or Golden Knights if the money can't work.
Palmieri, THE BEARD... well. So he's too expensive at 5 mil. Full Stop. But at 2.5? 2nd or 3rd line Front of the Net/finisher, on a capped team that has no depth??? I could see him getting 55-60 points with Leafs next year, and he's a playoff performer, Lord knows they need that. Two 3rd rounders cause TOR has no 2nd's. Voit might be a stretch, but I feel this is fair if Niemelä, Knies, Cowan and Minten are off the table.
Final notes. 2024-25 should be a "Tank" year let the new guys find footing, Voit, Thomas, Turcotte, etc. They should consider moving Holmstrom at the Draft for more picks (He needs a fresh start elsewhere). Resign Wahlstrom. and in the 2024 Offseason, go and sign Tradeable players, on 1 year deals to trade at the 2025 Trade Deadline (Yeah yeah, EA NHL is not real yadda yadda)
So that is my Tear Down of the Isles either tomorrow (just tank please) or at the Deadline (more likely). I feel like the Only things that are dumb ideas or "No deal" type trades are the Kings (Turcotte) and Leafs (Two 3rd rounders). I have no idea how Bruins fans feel on Fabian Lysell.
If Boston advances to 2024 conference finals & Clutterbuck plays at least 50% for BOS in the 2024 Playoffs, BOS 2025 5th round pick will upgrade to the 2025 3rd round pick
Sorry, but this team cannot rebuild. It would take 2-years, maybe more before they are even able to start rebuilding with the contracts that they have. They probably need a new GM, even if LOU isn't fired, he should hand over the GM job to someone else. Their best bet is a retool.
You are outside your mind with the Boston and LA trades.
LA has no cap or need probably but at least Nelson is a goal score that can get 30G and 60pts (maybe you're talking about the fact that the Isles retain 50% though for that return). There's a good chance that Clutterbuck doesn't get another NHL contract if the Isles don't sign him.
Nelson to Boston would be the interesting discussion. I doubt Boston takes that deal even if you took Lysell out of it. They have plenty of bottom 6 options and don’t need another one that diminishes any draft capital
Have you looked at TBs defensemen under the Yzerman/Brisebois tenure? On what planet do you think TB goes near a 5'10' 176 pound defenseman? Yeah TB doesn't do extremely undersized blueliners. Even if it weren't a severe overpay
