Haha, I first thought the offer was a 1st and Samsonov, and was dumbfounded as to how that would have been an overpayment 😁 Then it made more sense.
Think it's more fair value though than anything, I mean Samsonov is a long way from what Saros is plus his term is only for this season while Saros is on a great deal for the team.

Yeah I think it’s a good price to pay they could use some goaltending help and he’s got the extra year like you said

If they aren't getting some good prospect of some sort, I doubt they do it. Samsonov won't carry much value in the trade. Two 1sts in future years is not tempting at all, especially considering that Saros could help the Leafs win multiple cups.

Honestly, since NSH is re-tooling they would probably want guys that can help them soon. Probably Knies + a prospect like Minten who fits a positional need (and I bet Trotz would really like that he's sound defensively already) instead of those 1sts or Niemela. They would just probably add a conditional 3rd that turns into a 1st if the Leafs win the Cup in either of 2024 or 2025 season. The Leafs do need Knies, so maybe they offer one of their own ELCs for another pick. Maybe Tomasino for one of those 1sts.

Knies + Minten (if they value Minten as a 2nd only and not a 1st would require more) + conditional 2026 3rd (turns into 2026 1st if the Leafs win the Cup in 2024 or 2025) + 2024 1st (maybe there's a roster player that the Leafs could give instead or the 2027 1st) + Samsonov for Saros + Tomasino

I think this is the type of overpay that it would require for NSH to actually move Saros.

Absolutely insane overpay. Goalies never cost that much. Just keep Woll, fix the defence or fire Keefe.

I probably undervalued Knies, but the ask is probably going to be seismic. Maybe it would be without Minten. Regardless, it's definitely not worth it for the Leafs to trade for Saros at this time. People are always looking for instant fixes that probably wouldn't actually work.

This year, they just need to focus on fixing the defense and trying to win the Cup, and in the off-season, it would be about trying to retain as many key pieces as possible.

Then he never gets moved. Goalies are voodoo. You never overpay for one.

Not worth moving either, the Leafs are going to need a 2C sooner rather than later and they only have Cowan and maybe Minten who could be expected to fill that role in the future. Leafs got a good goalie in Woll and Samsonov still has potential, the fact that he's having a shaky year so far is something the Leafs can take advantage on perhaps allowing them to bring him back on a cheaper deal.

If they need help next year in net, then maybe they could target Saros as a rental.

If the leafs had someone that could clear the front of the net the goalies might be able to make more saves. Rielly, Brodie, Lilly, Gio and even McCabe aren't able to do it. Last yr in the playoffs Accairi couldn't get to the net against the Florida teams he was to small. Last night he looked way bigger than McCabe in front of the net and was the reason Pitt won. This team will be dominated physically by either florida team and boston in a series. They might win a round but they will be so banged up they won't win 2. You can't receive all the checks like the leafs do.

Gonna have to add to that Tanev Trade if you want to win his services over the other Teams interested in his services. Maybe add Timmins or Villeneuve as a Sweetener

You’re not getting a 4th for a 24 year old AHL’er in his last year of Waivers Eligibility.

He’s literally worth an AHL contract swap, that’s it

Same as Tyce Thompson was Traded today

Any team in the league would give us a 5th for him at minimum and you guys have been quoted to be interested in him so to you guys he probably is worth a 4th and in the real world I wouldn’t be surprised if tanev is only worth a first half retained this is accepted all day long end of this little talk

Yeah, we’re interested in Abruzzese simply because of his connection to Coronato, but he’d be a throw-in or smal sweetener to the deal, not a main piece or anything of significance

A 5th for what!? He can’t even make the Leafs Bottom-6. Teams can pay a 5th for an actual NHL’er like AJ Greer for example…

You’re over valuing Abruzzese as a Prospect, but this is a well known and accepted Leafs tendency, so I don’t really expect anything different tbh 🤷‍♂️

Prepare to be absolutely SHOCKED ⚡️ by the returns on Tanev, Zadorov and Tanev IF/when they get Traded

I think you’ll be shocked when tanev only brings in a first half retained and zadorov brings in 2 3rds half retained lol
