That’s the equivalent of 3+ 1st rd picks. Nobody is paying that for a rental. Nobody

That's solid value going to Tampa in the Stamkos deal, but not the right pieces. Tampa needs a D man who can actually defend and keep pucks out of the net. Not exactly Girard's strong suit. And this deal has Tampa adding over $2m in cap hit, which is cap space they don't have.

I still feel that Girard would add a strong element to their D core and his ability with the puck would be quite welcomed, as for the cap for this season the assumption is he would be off the cap for the remainder of the season.

Girards play in transition and excellent stick work would be a great help to the Bolts' dcore. I would rather trade Behrens than Guly, part of me questions whether Behrens will sign or force c.f.a. Bit of a log jam on the left.

Edit: Kuch, Serg, and Vassy might be a good place for Guly, if i were to look at this unselfishly lol.

id argue its two 1st, a risky contract, a cap dump, and a depth piece with no value. Also id say colorado could definitely re-sign Stamkos and he could be an option for the next couple of seasons for the AVS on the 1LW.

Tampa needs another guy like Cernak who's a solid defensive D man. They have more than enough offense on their blue line already.

I commented on your other ACGM, but this is top to bottom not something viable for Colorado. No thank you.

It's not necessarily what he's worth on the market; it's just that the Habs value him more than what he's probably worth and would need an overpay to think of moving him. He's one of the more veteran players on their blueline (especially with all of the injuries) and is probably good for the very young D-core.

any reason this imo could solve the issue of your 1LW or bolster your 2C position for the next couple of years cause id believe that stammer would re-sign especially if hes willing to waive his NTC, so I'm curious as to why?

He's paid 766k for this season AND the next and has been playing extremely reliable minutes. He is 6'5", great skater, great team-first guy, averaging 18+ minutes.

For another year at 766k, and from he Habs point of view (already having so many draft picks from past drafts and the upcoming ones - with 50 max contracts), there is no need to get rid of him for a 4th round pick.

Just being super respectful here.

Now... if he was LHD, that maaaaaaay be a different story, since Habs have way more LHD coming up in the system.

But Kovacevic, at 766k (cheapest contract on the team), playing 18+ min, he is worth more than a 4th round pick.
Teams are looking for cap space these days. So Kovacevic is NOT just a 6th D (he is currently the 4th D on the team). He is a player-contract, with his contract being the cheapest in the NHL.

Cheers buddy!

Exactly.

To the Habs, he is worth more 'on the team' than yet another 4th round pick.

Also, his contract is bumping him waaaaaaaaay up the value.

People often want to dismiss this cruciial element.

There is so much wrong here. Diminished value or not Girard is easily worth a 1st (plus I don’t think you can trade a player in PAP) not a contract dump that’s just dumb, he’s a 24yr old top 4 dman, Gulyayev is a recent 1st, and 1st rd pick is easily 3 1st rd picks I’ll grant you Tatar and Tufte are throw ins but they aren’t negative value. COL needs a #1 LW about as much as they need a #1 dman, if Landeskog comes back there is option 1, Nichushkin has played a ton of #1 LW and when healthy has produced at a ppg pace, Lehkonen has also played a ton of #1 LW so yeah LW is about the lowest priority, but hat they need is a permanent solution at 2C, and no they can’t easily resign Stamkos if they were to make the trade. They would have $13M to sign Stamkos, 4 other forwards, a top 4 d replacement a 3rd pairing dman, a 7th dman and a back up goalie, all with the specter of knowing at the end of the season they can also or will have to in a year sign Rantanen, Georgie and Byram to extensions. It’s an egregious overpay for a 33yr old.

okay lets say you take out Girard from this trade as we have different viewpoints on his perceived value but lets do that and since hes on the AVS that will make stammer a pure rental cause they won't be able to re-sign him then either gulyayev+1st or 1st+3rd+behrens with the throw ins of Tatar and tufte would be ideal imo, The goal was to create a long term solution and I think Stammer would have taken a paycut if it meant he could win cups but even as a pure rental this trade makes the AVS a much better team.

Stamkos is a rental. Resigning him would be expensive.

What happens when Landeskog comes back? You’re presumably suggesting that the Avs commit a large cap hit and a few years of term to a guy that’s going to be 34 at the start of next season.

If the Avs really wanted to do that mistake of contract, they can do it in the offseason. No reason to do this type of return for a rental
