Team: 2023-24 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 19, 2023
Published: Dec. 19, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
WPG
  1. Hanifin, Noah
  2. 2024 4th round pick (CGY)
CGY
  1. Heinola, Ville
  2. Schmidt, Nate
  3. 2024 1st round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:
Schmidt is included here to make the cap work. He's still a decent defender but Hanifin would be an improvement for the Jets.
2.
WPG
  1. Henrique, Adam ($2,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
I get Henrique isn't the flashiest of targets for the Jets, but he still has 10 goals and 8 helpers in 30 games on a pretty bad Ducks team. To put this into perspective, that's a 27 goals and 21 assists pace over an 82 games season, meaning 48 points. He's a pending UFA too, meaning that worst case, if this doesn't work out, they could always just let him go in the summer.
ANA
  1. Gustafsson, David
  2. Kupari, Rasmus
  3. 2024 4th round pick (WPG)
  4. 2025 2nd round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:
Rasmus Kupari isn't the greatest young player on the planet but he can play in the Ducks lineup right away, most likely, and best case scenario for him is to become a solid 3rd liner, worst case is becoming a 4th liner. I don't see the downside of bringing in a guy like him.

David Gustafsson was once seen as very promising but now I believe a fresh start could be beneficial for him.

That's probably more than WPG needs to part with for Henrique. One of Kupari or Gustafsson (which ever Verbeek perfers) but not both is fine. The 4th offsets moving the 2nd to 2025. If you want to part with the Montreal 2nd instead you could keep the 4th.

Flames will probably get a better offer elsewhere. Not that high on Heinola anymore

Really? I figured the heavy retention would require one more asset.

Heinola was mostly added for him to get a fresh start. Schmidt's worth a 2nd round pick I'd say (tho he is overpaid) and a first this year is always good. Maybe remove the 4th on CGY's side and add another minor asset going to them?

The consensus opinion from most Ducks fans is a 2nd plus a decent prospect gets you Henrique 50% retained. We'll see though, he's hot right now and if that keeps up the price might rise.

I don't think anyone is paying a 2nd for Schmidt at this point. In fact I think he would probably cost assets to move currently. I don't mind taking him on because he fills a roster spot for next season but I would certainly not pay anything of value for him right now

The Jets aren't paying that high a price for a rental LHD they have no need of.

Henrique doesn't waive and the Jets aren't giving up two roster players for one that is a rental. Neither Gustafsson or Kupari would be available for a rental.

The idea is to add depth, not lessen it.

Kupari and Gus have combined for a total of 4 points this season, Henrique has 18. You need Scoring depth, Kupari and Gus aren't depth if they don't score.

One guy is playing top line minutes in Anaheim, while the other two are playing 4th line minutes. The scoring difference should be greater considering one of the two is injured and hasn't played a month.

You need 4th liners that can grind and kill penalties. Expensive bottom sixers aren't a need for the Jets.

Don't you LOVE the way this homer characterizes those stiffs as "two roster players"?

Agree 100%, and I'm pretty sure the rest of the Anaheim faithful will do so, too.

You have absolutely no idea what Adam Henrique does, do you?

He's been mostly on the third line with us this season, he's playing up at present due to injuries in the top 6. He's been chipping in with secondary scoring for years.

Noah Hanifin wants the States only, And Calgary would easily reject that offer for him.
