Unlikely Winnipeg does that. They can just ride out Schmidt's contract, or buy him out in the summer and keep that high 2nd.

Getting points while getting major opportunities on a bad team does not mean he'll be as successful on a team where he doesn't get any PP or top 6 minutes. And Benning has been a bottom pair guy on every team he's played on or the 7/8 guy on decent teams. No one is overpaying for them.
