Probably because the absolute last thing NYI needs is goaltending. Like of all the teams...

Also that is way too much for Lindholm. Byram would be a great addition to the Flames but you are on crack if you think they are adding their 1st and OO (despite me thinking OO will only pan out as a depth winger)

Last thing Islanders need is an expensive backup Tendy for Sorokin. And Tanev is a bit overpriced too. But even worse is that pay amount you want for the both of them. I’d say Islanders would just keep what they got.

Next If you are trading Hanifin. New Jersey isn’t the team who needs defenseman. Expect someone who’s in the hunt but sort of out of it like Minnesota Wild Detroit Red Wings St.Louis Blues etc to try and make a deal for Hanifin.

Now I don’t think the Lindholm trade is bad for either side. I just don’t know how the hell Colorado fits that contract long term into the Colorado cap. That’s cap hell all over again. So that’s my only concern with that. Although Lindholm could definitely be on the move. I’ve thought about ideas of him going to like the Flyers or Preds.

The price is far from the issue in the islanders deal. Markstrom has been very good this year and even if you think Tanev is overpaid (he definitely isn't) the op has him 50% retained. Tanev at 50% is worth 2 2nds or a 1st and a 3rd. Markstrom absolutely has value too i don't think a 2nd, a middle 6 forward, and a B prospect is at all an overpayment for him by any means.

The fit is clearly horrible though

I think you are completely off base with New Jersey here. Defense is a pretty big need for them with Dougie out, only behind goaltending. Hanifin wpuld be a fit on quite a few contending tea.s right now, like Dallas, Boston, Toronto, Florida, and NYI

The Avs trade is definitely an overpayment. And I'm saying that as a Flames fan. If Calgary could get Byram in a return for Lindholm they should take it

Those aren't the pieces the Devils are gonna be looking to move for Hanifin. More likely that Bahl +2024 1st is around what Devils would offer. Maybe another mid round pick/ B level prospect. McLeod is nearing untouchable territory. Does so much for our team

DevsFan has this right. McLeod is the best faceoff man in the league on a cheap deal, that's not going to be part of the return. I disagree with earlier post about Hanifin not being the right piece. Real good D is key to post season wins. Nemec and L Hughes will be there but not for at least another yr probably more. Hanifin makes them real contenders real quick. It would help the goaltending too, which needs a refresh

You forgot to add Dustin Wolf to the Lindholm trade. Oh that’s right that would be foolish just like thinking CGY gets Byram for a rental because you don’t really think CGY is getting a cost controlled 22yr old top 4 dman with #1 potential for a rental do you?

I also agree that Hanifin is the right move for this team. Just a solid all around dman. IMO, he would be a perfect long-term partner for Nemec. Imagine these d pairings moving forward

Hanifin-Nemec
Hughes- Marino
Siegenthaler- Miller/Hamilton <--- when he returns from injury

That defense would be insane. How do the Devils still have cap space?

That Jack Hughes contract is something special.

Honestly Fitz has done good with all of them (Palat not withstanding)
Siegs was even well done.
