The Rangers already have three young goaltenders between the AHL and the ECHL, I doubt they would want to give up Domingue as a veteran presence for yet another one.

Do they? I’d rather spend those assets on a forward, not another defenseman.

Seattle declines. Value coming back to Seattle isn't nearly on par with what Seattle is giving up. Larsson is the big chip there and he's not flashy but easily one of the best RHD's in the league right now. I understand Toronto fans think this is a great deal which also means it's a crappy deal for the other team. Larsson may get moved next year but he's the cornerstone on Seattle's D at the moment.

You actually thought the Leafs would give you the far superior defenceman, with retention & 2 2nd rd picks? You're smoking the hard stuff, huh?

Potentially. The other concern is Seattle probably isn't moving on from Larsson anytime soon unless he asks for a trade before then. Earliest I think you see him moved is the TDL for the 24/25 season assuming he's not re-signed, and the Kraken are out of contention. He's not really an easy piece in the defense to replace.

Borgen is also playing really impressive on the second pairing right now so to give up your top two defensive RHD in one deal is going to have a really negative effect on the blue line of a defense first team.

okay
A) the idea that Brodie is a "far superior" defenseman to Edmunson is hilarious. Sure I'll say he's better, but at the end of the day, they are both solid 2nd/3rd line defenseman on a good team. It's a pretty lateral move in my opinion. And I'm not saying that just because I'm a Caps fan or I don't like the Leafs or whatever, Edmunson has been wayyy better than I thought he was since he got to DC.
B) The Caps desperately need more scoring help, Brodie doesn't put up 35-45 points at this point in his career anymore, Sure he's an upgrade on Edmunson in the offensive zone, but 9 assists in 38 games doesn't scream "scoring help"
C) The Caps have plenty of cap space, so the Leafs wouldn't need to retain and the Caps wouldn't need to give up an extra asset.
D) Both players are on expiring contracts, and Edmunson is cheaper, even with the retention on Brodie. The Caps aren't contenders, so there's really no need to give up assets to get a guy that won't move the needle that much, and that we won't re-sign in the offseason anyways.
E) The Caps have Sandin, Fehervary, Edmunson, Alexeyev, johansen, and Haman-Aktell down the left that can all play, and Carlson, Jensen, TVR (who can play the left), Iorio, and McIlrath down the right. If the Caps go after a defenseman, I'd imagine it'd be a top guy like Hanifin. And I can't see that happening

Basically, Brodie makes no sense for the Caps, especially if you have to give up two solid future assets to get him

To Recoup draft capital and gain cap space. This isn't rocket science.

alright, fair enough. still a very hard pass for Washington lol. Why spend draft capital on a small upgrade for a team that's like 95% likely to miss the playoffs. Makes absolutely no sense.
Also, I've heard Leafs fans do nothing but complain about Brodie this year. Not a good sell
