Newhook-Dach - similar trades candidates

Created by: simonveilleux

Initial Creation Date: Jan. 10, 2024

Description
Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton like to acquire young players instead of draft picks to expedite the rebuilding process. Here, in my opinion, are some interesting candidates for similar trades.

4.
MTL
  1. Krebs, Peyton
  2. Östlund, Noah
Additional Details:
Östlund is a bit of a reach since he's still young, but Buffalo has so many young fowards in their system that they might be tempted to move him.
BUF
5.
6.
7.
8.
MTL
  1. Johnson, Kent
Additional Details:
He changed his agent this year and seemed frustrated early in the season. It might be a misinterpretation on my part, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's unhappy in Columbus.

ooo okay. zach dean perhaps? i dont think we do this one tho.

Haven’t talked much about him. He’s struggling in his first pro season. At some point they’re probably going to look to move a guy like Dean or Buldoc for a defensive prospect that has some promise. Just not sure what Deans worth right now

Wahlstrom isn't getting a QO this summer, you can just scoop him up then

don't see how we are the ones paying a 1st. Monty for Holtz 1v1 makes sens. Monty is extended so wont happen

Because holtz is a much more valuable asset than a middle tier goalie.

Dach and Newhook had in common that they were traded away between the end of season and draft, by teams who didn't want to give them pay increases, but prefered futures and the capspace (for contending or tanking).

You can eliminate every players signed for the 2024-2025 season. (Holt, Bourque, Neighbors). No incentive to trade away players near minimum salary.

You can eliminate LA, Columbus and Buffalo, since they have capspace and want to get results short term.

We are left with Wahlstrom (meh), Holloway and Kakko. IMO only Edmonton could be tempted to move in season to get capspace at TDL, but if not the Campbell buyout would give them capspace during the off season.

Only NYR could get tempted to move on from Kakko before the Draft, like the Avs with Newhook.

Another young buy low/big potential target IMO could be Texier. But Columbus would want an NHL ready player (Harris?).

The only thing tempting for Holtz in NJD would be Montembault+Calgary 1st

mailloux for neighbours 1v1?

Mallioux is a very very good player but given the controversy around him being drafted I doubt the Habs trade him or that he has a ton of value to other teams atm

The only real positions the devils need is shutdown LD and Goalie.

Since I’m certain you won’t move Guhle, that leaves Monty. And since holtz is much higher in value you’d have to afd

Xhekaj is an AHL enforcer I wouldn’t pay anything for him

Allen 50% for Vanacek swap I’d probably pay a 3rd for.

A ways away from Holtz value

I cannot see anything interestning for Sabres, that MTL would be willing to trade. Slaf, Suzuki, Caufield, Reinbacher must be unavailable

Krebs could be delt for way less. A D prospect such as Mattias Norlinder and a 2nd round draft pick could fetch Krebs IMO.

I’d do Montembault+Calgary 1st for Holtz, idk if you would tho

A goalie that is no better than the ones we currently have and a 1st for our most efficient scorer? I'll let you think about what I'll say

Payton Krebs, Jacob Bryson for Bogdan Konyushkov and Christian Dvorak.
Picks or retention could be added as needed.
This is presuming Dvorak and Bryson have minimum value.

NEVER in a million timelines. The franchise insists on character. Neighbours has all of it, Mailloux is a scumbag.

They're not going to look to get rid of a 20 yo talent because of his first 30 pro games. It's not microwave popcorn.

I get that. But at the same time I think it would make sense to be open to moving a guy who's a forward prospect for a defensive prospect given where we're at.

Would depend on the prospect, of course. Honestly, as well as we draft, I'd definitely prefer to let Bolduc develop. We did not draft Dean, but he also has a lot of Blues like attributes, and I doubt he fetches the kind of prospect we need right now. Of course, two months from now could look very different.

I think Montembault is certainly an upgrade over our current goalies.

I’d offer a 2nd for him
1st+2nd is reasonable value for Holtz imo

I’m not saying Monty is elite.

Decent goalie, in his 20s, reasonable contract. I’d pay a 2nd for him.
