this would be a fat L for dallas.

trade away collin miller for nothing in the offseason and then payout the nose for a worse player?

Montreal Gazette reported they were considering trading him. Saad Yousef at The Athletic said the stars are looking for a defenseman like him and hinted to them possibly reaching out. Nothing concrete.

Stars defense is in trouble. Savard isnt going to save it completely but he's an upgrade. I would say he's better than Miller defensively. And that's what the stars need.

He's not top 4 talent wise - BUT he takes 18 mins of the WORST minutes out there blocking shots, killing penalties and clearing the front of the net. It lets your top Dman have more time to do what they are good at.

Savard in 18 games has blocked 60 shots, averaged over 21 minutes and has a -2 plus/minus all while playing the toughest minutes on a team that has a -27 goal differential overall. He has been the definition of solid for Montreal this year.

Because of rarety and because these type of player win cups. In the playoff, the standars changes and he can (and will) break sticks on opposing player's back. He will not dangle (although he's got one sweet move that works all the time), but he will keep pucks out of your net... which is key in the playoff where play is a lot more tight.

There are literally like 200 defenseman in the league that will do that

At the level and consistency of Savard, maybe 30. When you have one or two on your team... you don't need a third. But when you have none - teams are willing to play the price (AKA - Chariot and Savard himself when he was traded to the TBL)
