When you go 50% retained by one team and then 50% retained by another it's 75% retained in total. I'm assuming that's what you wanted with that additional team retaining anyway.

not 75% retained. its 50% retained
If I'm reading it right, I think it's legitimately just 50% retained by another team, without Columbus retaining any. That's...rare, to say the least. Jenner is already so cheap and so valuable, that I think the offer gets beat by a team who doesn't need the retention. Locking up that slot for 2.5 years is a big ask, especially on a deal that doesn't really require it.
I think we're getting there in value, but it's still not enough for Jenner mostly because 1) Columbus is sending the 2nd-best pick in the deal, and 2) the first isn't this year, or even the year after. For a team that wants to compete next year, anything beyond 2024 doesn't justify moving a guy who very clearly helps now.
Worth discussing here since it's at least an honest attempt at a Jenner trade: Jarmo and JD would still need to be fired before this move takes place IMO, among other things. Otherwise, Jenner isn't available. If he is made available, I think it's 2024 1st, Minten or Cowan, and a 2nd; otherwise, Toronto gets beat out by another contender looking for a 2C/very good 3C. That's a loooong list without many options this season for rentals: Colorado, Seattle, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Carolina, NYR, Florida, and Boston at least would all be in on him.
