Bottom 6 and depth

Created by: SlimTJ100

Initial Creation Date: Jan. 16, 2024

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
To me as it stand right now we have two weak spots (assuming Chytil comes back), and that is 3RW and 4C. Wheeler and Bonino are just too old and slow. They mean well, they really do, but I’m not sure they can hang on the league much longer. So ideally they get some speed, size and jam in those 2 spots at the TDL. Keeping in mind the salary cap restraints it’s kind of what we’ll be able to do imo. Could be all they need to do tbh
Trades
1.
CHI
What would Chicago want for Blackwell? He was a nice player for us and Seattle grabbed him in the expansion draft
    2.
    NYR
    1. Ruzicka, Adam
    Additional Details:
I like Ruzicka a lot. Big strong and young. Could be a 3C in a pinch should Chytil go down again.

Not sure this enough for him, but Big Ed profiles similarly to Ruzicka but he’s too young and raw to use at the moment. Maybe he’d interest Calgary. I’d give them a second and a prospect
    CGY
    1. Edström, Adam
    2. 2024 2nd round pick (NYR)
    3.
    NYR
    1. Bogosian, Zach
    Additional Details:
Always loved Bogo from afar. All business, warrior/leader type who is much more suited for playoff hockey then Jones is.

Jones is a capable offensive PP point man for a different team. With Fox here he’s basically useless for us

I definitely think Calgary would listen to offers on Ruzicka. I'm worried he ends up being a late bloomer like Tage but he does not look strong on his skates this year. He gets pushed around pretty easily.

I imagine it wouldn’t take too much for Blackwell, maybe a 5th round pick.

Only reason I throw deals together for him is because I saw a rumor a few weeks ago the rangers could get him. He definitely makes sense. Not even necessarily for this year, but for center depth in general. We really have no one to step in as we’ve seen since Chytil got hurt. It’s a must Drury adds a center imo

I'd say Calgary would take that deal. I agree with oilfire though, I think they see a lot of potential in the guy. He just hasn't been able to be consistent so far. That could also be because our lines have been in perpetual flux for 2 years.

CHI wants one of your best pizza's and a garbage bag to put it in, for Blackwell.

TBH honest I haven’t seen Ruzcika much, but I do remember one game vs us where he was really good. It could’ve been two years ago, so it wasn’t recent. We definitely have room for him which seems like the problem in Calgary. He’s been blocked right? They have 3 centers so not enough playing time. He’d be our 3C immediately at least until came back comes back.

If he has two eyeballs and 10 fingers he’ll be fine, because I’m not sure Bonino has that😂

I feel like Rosie would be akin to Vatrano. When he got him. Under the radar, a guy who has something to prove for a bigger contract, that helps him reach his potential with some more ice time. Seems logical 🤷🏻‍♂️

tears of joy haha. Glad you enjoyed that. Seriously, though, send one of those NY pizzas up to New Hampshire. The food here sucks.

Gotta think a 3rd probably gets him no matter what, 4th would do it if no better offer from someone else. Less than that I can see the hawks keeping him for the rest of the season.

Our problem is our AHL depth is the pits. We need outside help for the bottom 6. We’re old and slow there

Blackwell is fast and fiery. Might not put every breakaway in the net, but his compete level is exactly what you want on a bottom 6 contending team.

Yea. I mentioned we had him so it’s not like I don’t know who he is. He was good for us. If I recall he didn’t want to leave, but Seattle claimed him in expansion

Ruzicka performed well on the top line last season. He was good at getting the puck out of the corners and showed some flashes of brilliance. For whatever reason his foot speed is down this season and has been shuffled around as they tried to find people to play with Huberdeau.
