Initial Creation Date: Jan. 20, 2024
Published: Jan. 20, 2024

Description
It sucks to lose players for nothing, but I think these guys are gonna look elsewhere to further their careers.
Trades
1.
MTL
BUF
  1. Tuch, Luke [Reserve List]
Additional Details:
I doubt Tuch signs. He wanted a contract last summer and was upset when they didn't give him one. I expect him to defect.
2.
MTL
CHI
  1. Pitlick, Rhett [Reserve List]
Additional Details:
Oliver Moore's buddy who broke out this year. Probably does not see a future for himself in Montreal. I see him signing in Chicago.

If Habs thought Tuch was NHL material, yeah the Habs were foolish not to sign him last summer, if Tuch was willing to sign.
That's the problem with college players especially, they have options. If you're going to draft them high, better be sure you can sign them.
I know nothing of Tuch...but he's from Syacurse. Sabres AHL team is in Rochester. Brother plays for Sabres. Looks like a Sabre signing.

Good to know about Rhett. I could see the Hawks giving him a shot for sure.

Tuch also underperformed last year in NCAA ... I don"t really follow but it seems he has stepped it up this year. His size and speed make him intriguing but if he truly wont sign, better to trade his rights for whatever return they can get

Pitlick could join the hawks best uninjured player, his brother Rem.

I expect a Tuch trade to Buffalo soon. For like a fifth or a prospect that doesn’t want to sign

Tuch to SJS (just a hunch)

Blake Biondi is probably worth a at least an AHL contract. Good defensive forward. His rights expire in August.

Luke Mittelstadt could also walk this summer if he chooses to.

Honestly not a long list of forwards that play all 4 years that end up making much of an impact. especially considering both have only experienced breakouts in senior seasons.

For Tuch, if he expected a contract any earlier with his performance and in his draft position, his issue is either poor self evaluation or poor advisement.
He needed that extra year to show he is potentially worth the investment.

No I think Luke Mittelstadt is under team control for 3 more years. They just drafted him.

Oh that’s right…I thought he was 2022. He can walk in 2025.

I've actually been thinking about proposing a trade for Rhett Pitlick's rights. Then I watched last nights game where he had the hat trick and figured MTL fans would scream at me if I even thought about him.

So, yes, I think CHI should absolutely be interested in him. And I kind of wonder if KD was signaling interest when he traded for his brother.

I doubt his offense translates to an offensive role in the NHL, but I think he could be a good role player/cultural fit.

Yeah. Like I said, I was already thinking about proposing a trade before the explosion of offense. I just love the pace and compete he plays with. Plus, even for a short guy, he is strong and feisty. I doubt he is a top 6 forward, but I think he will still have some sneaky good offense to his game at the pro level and all his other attributes could make him a very important and endearing player to whatever club he ends up with.
