It would be a stretch to see the Leafs give up a 1st for Tanev let alone their top defensive prospect

Not sure why NSH (who really shouldn't be a deadline buyer) is giving up so much for a rental at their deepest position.

Leafs gave up a kings ransom for NF a few years ago. It’s plausible. Maybe Treliving will be smarter.

Because it’s Hanifin. But yes they need F’s.

Arizona is likely out of the playoffs, so they offer so much for rental???? Same with Nashviile. It's Cup contending teams that trade for good upcoming UFASs.
I don't see the Leafs doing that trade.....Dubas isn't here anymore. How does Tanev change the Leafs fortunes this year?

He gives their D character. Which they always lack.

Really?? If character is so important why has his Flames missed the playoff the past three seasons? In 13 NHL seasons, Tanev has won three NHL playoff rounds, so he hardly has been a playoff warrior. Not saying it has been his fault, but geez, this "character" or "grit" reference really is meaningless.

Still better than the Leafs currently.

Leafs pass drop the 1st and it’s closer but not quite enough also don’t need the full 50% retained

I think you have been really blinded by the great Dmen the Flames have. Hanifan, Andersson, Tanev have all missed the playoffs in the past three years, and now for the fourth year, Weager has joined them.
Admitting that Tanev is better than some Leaf Dmen, but acquiring the Flames fourth best Dmen, doesn't change any teams playoff fortunes.

Flames have been in the playoffs 2015, 17, 19, 2020, and 22. Basically every other year. And they have made more rounds than the Leafs have in 20+ years.

Boston gave up Joe thornton for a big pile of cinder blocks, maybe the leafs can get pastrnak for something similar

That was one bad trade versus a franchise tradition of trading lotta of futures for vets.

No, that was one trade teams make all the time at the deadline and one of the worst trades of all time

I think the other teams are overpaying the Flames:

Tanev trade: remove all assets except the 1st. Most likely it will be 2 x 2nds.

Hanifin trade: replace either the 1st or Svechkov with a 3rd.

Lindholm trade: replace Hayton and Soderstorm with Raty

Arizona isn’t buying rentals. We’re playing this season as is, we’re no where near a buyer

LOL, Calgary isn't interested in the Leafs "top defensive prospect". He be behind several prospects in Calgary.

I seriously doubt either Arizona or Nashville are in the playoffs, So those trades aren't happening. And there's no freaking way that Lindholm extends long term in Arizona of Hanifin extending long term in Nashville.. Even the Tanev trade is a joke. he's basically a 3rd pairing RHD that's getting way too much.
