This feels like selling for the sake of doing something with no clear purpose. Hartman is a very useful player and you're moving him for just a late first. Dewar too, an RFA who shouldn't be very expensive and can contribute in positive ways, for a 4th, for what reason?

I like Hartman. We would need to flip out someone in order to afford him though.

Prospects. Hartman's value should be pretty high after 2 good seasons (I wouldn't have extended him in the first place). He really just takes up a spot that could easily go to Khusnutdinov, Yurov, or Ohgren. Dewar I never liked his size personally for the 4th line. A guy like Caedan Bankier coming up next year with size and some hot AHL scoring might be a better fit.

With Spurgeon on LTIR we obviously can take a cap dump for the rest of the year. Probably nothing long term though.

None of those prospects are ready to fill Hartman's role, and there are other guys leaving to open spots for them to win. 10 forward spots currently filled for next year if Dewar is signed. That means 2 full time roster spots for any of those guys to win, and they're not all going to be ready for the NHL.

So I guess that dumping OEL's dead cap buyout on you guys for the next 8 years is out of the question?

I think Hartman is a great player, just not sure if thats a profile Canucks would be willing to give a first for.

Just a late 1st for a 3/4m role player? No thx

Ryan Hartman getting a late first and RHD journeyman? Seems steep for him

My comparable was the Tyler Bertuzzi trade from last season. I know his contract situation is different, but his stats from the past few seasons are arguably better than Bertuzzi's at the time last season.

Looks somewhat reasonable.
