Apparently Avs fans would rather have Henrique or Lindholm and no cap space

Avs decline. Monahan = RyJo. It's a lateral move. Evans and the cap difference isn't worth a 1st and a 3rd, plus Evans is more than the Avs should be willing to pay a 4C going forward.

RyJo isn’t good lmao stop with the points comparisons, they aren’t playing with the same guys.
RyJo is a cap dump (negative value) while Monahan is worth close to a 1st round pick

Wait................... Monahan = Johansen ??? Just look the stats.............

Monahan : 34 pts in 48 games
Johansen : 18 pts in 48 games

And don't forget that Monahan playing in a less stacked team, and he playing the same range in the line-up.

Monahan = 1st round pick + half of Johansen

Evans = 3rd round pick + half of Johansen

Monahan isn't good either and definitely not WORTH a 1st round pick regardless of if someone is stupid enough to pay it. I could give you plenty of evidence for why SM isn't the answer but you'd just ignore it as you and most Habs fans always do.....a bit like I'm going to do with you from now on!

It's what iv been told. They'd rather pay a 1st for either of those two even though it would leave them with less cap space and essentially the same type of player

Not particularly interested in Evans. With how tight the Avs are to the cap next year, I wouldn’t be interested in spending more than $1M on any 4th liner. Every dollar counts.

To disagree with other Avs folks: I think Monahan is a clear upgrade over RyJo. It’s also great how he’s rebounded health wise. That said, is Monahan a 1st+ upgrade over RyJo? Ehhh… I think that’s a tough argument to make.

You can have your opinion about the price of the trade or Monahan, i'm ok with that, but Monahan is WAY better than Johansen, and that's not a lie.....

A 1st was talked about last year for Rico before he got injured. This season with one playoff run I don't see it without significant retention and then...voila! Cap space. Lindholm is an entirely different question and it's part of why I don't think the Avs should target him at all. He'll be too expensive for a rental who is on a down year.

Evans is a very underapriciated player in the league, he haves maybe the same type of play than Lehkonen. He is a great 4th line centerman, with somes little bit offensive touch.

Why does this keep going on? The reason many Avs fans dont like the idea of Monahan is that he is likely not a very good stylistic fit,. The experiment with Ryjo has proven that without any uncertainty. I don’t disklike Monahan as a player, just as a fit in Avs system. Why is that so controversial?

WAY better is most definitely a lie. I won't even illustrate it with evidence as it's all been done on here and elsewhere sooooooo many times and the small minority of vocal Habs fans simply ignore it and shout louder or have a tantrum.

Because Monahan is playing the best out of all the other options to trade for. Lindholm, Henrique, Wennberg and just about anything other center that's trade bait right now are more expensive while also not playing as well as him.

I get it's not a stylistic fit, but it's also probably the best out of any other options on the board

Avs don't want Evans in this trade, but i'm sure they're prepared to trade RyJo & the 2024 1st for Monahan if Henrique doesn't work. Monahan's footspeed is a concern for the Avs, but his playmaking is good, his goalscoring is good, and gives us the ability to have a legitmate PP2 which we have straight up not had this year.

Monahan straight up for a 1st is not happening for the Avs i would guess. They cannot have that kind of footspeed issues in two of their centers.

Sure, that’s fine. I’m not saying he’s bad. Just that when you are SO tight to the cap, you have to make sacrifices.

I’d for sure be interested if he made around $1M. I know that feels nitpicky, but that Avs are in a world of hurt with their cap situation next year. Every dollar counts.

Yes, somehow the avs would rather pay more money to get the superior player

Fair points and i agree with you, those options aren’t great. And it would be stupid to use assets (COL almost doesn’t have any) for a bad fit, rental middle six C. My wish would be that Avs try to go after a younger 2/3C with upside. Either this season (Frost e.g.). Or maybe put Byram on the table in the offseason and go for someone like Mercer.

Agreed. Colorado needs to make a splash for their 2C and that 2C needs to be one for now and their future
