Canes decline. I like Chychrun, he's not worth Necas.

Carolina doesn't need LHD, And Necas > Chychrun. And i know Chychrun plays the rightside as well. but he sucks at it.

Ottawa should not be trading their own first round pick this year.

I see Chychrun as a good fit should the Canes lose Skjei. What do you think would get a deal done? And truthfully, I’d rather trade Chabot, but this is the likely outcome.

They might need one if Skjei walks.

Agreed. Unless Jiricek becomes available. He’s a legit top 2 dman. I’d give up 2 OA for him without hesitation.

Jiricek will cost a lot more than just a 1st round pick and a 2nd round pick.

I think Jarmo is picking up the phone and listening if that pick is between 2nd and 5th overall. So in this case, it’s not “just a 1st round pick”, it’s an incredibly high one. Plus a 2nd.

Not Necas, Jarvis or Svechnikov. Carolina are only a year away from getting Alexander Nikishin from the KHL, so a long term LD isn't a need or a want. With Slavin and Orlov still here, they just need a 3rd pairing stop gap, which they can get in free agency. Chychrun for Necas makes no sense because Carolina's desire is going to be a 2C, and Necas is a natural centerman. Trading a potential solution to a problem for an addition to the team strength is awful asset management

No, they don't. They really do not need more defensemen

Maybe you need to brush up on his scouting report. Prior to his injury in his draft year, he was rated as high as 2OA, above even Simon Nemec in some draft reports. The kid is a legit 2-way defenceman and a #1 RHD. Having him and Sanderson would be an absolute coup.

A top 5 pick and a top 40 pick is a lot more than just a 1sf and 2nd

I would think that this is a draft deal once the order is set for this year’s draft. And Columbus would be foolish not to jump at this if things go south, as they seem to be doing, with Jiricek.

Not really... we move Orlov up to the second pairing and find a cheap 3LD

...on the Jackets. And has played well.

I'll say on here what I've said on the dozens of other threads, even a top-5 pick doesn't fill the 1RD he should fill in the next year or two, no matter who we draft this year. There's some good defensemen, but not with Jiricek build and skillset. Based on team need, he stays regardless of value offered.

Completely agree with you on this. The only scenario I can think of is if Jiricek demands a trade. Otherwise build your team around this kid.

Agreed, but even if he demands a trade, he's the guy ownership asks "who do we fire to make you happy and keep you"? He's that critical to the team.

What do CBJ fans think about Vincent's deployment of their younger players (ie. Johnson being scratched to open the year, Jiricek being scratched quite a bit lately, and Fantilli playing on the 4th line) & do you think Jarmo keeps his job past this season?

Kent Johnson was ass. They handled it well. His season turned around with his time in Cleveland and even he will admit that.

Jiricek has a ton of signs of both front office and coaching staff manipulation. Jarmo ****ed the right side of our D and it leaves it up for the coach to balance playing time with a roster of 5 RHD and only one that can go to the AHL. Jarmo can’t offload any of them in trades bc they’re worthless and he won’t just waive Andrew Peeke for some reason. So to put it all on Pascal is ridiculous.

Fantilli has had a ton of really **** games. He had literally one period on a fourth line. It’s a non story. He’s back on the wing now because his instincts right now are not good. He’s been puck watching and unable to drive offense no matter who his line mates are. Putting him on the wing with some veterans on the line was an effort to help the game be simpler for him. He’s insanely talented and it’s so obvious from the game but it hasn’t made the team better. He’s buried in Corsi, xG, and anything else you want to measure for a month straight and that’s with a bunch of different line combos. I’ve got clips on my twitter of him skating just absolutely brain dead college kid routes that turn rush opportunities into 0 shot attempts. He’s so good but he’s in his adjustment period. Last year he just skated through and past everyone on his way to a Hobey. He’s finding out the NHL is harder.

In terms of the other young players: Cole Sillinger is having a career Renaissance, Yegor Chinakhov is looking like he’s going to be an elite goal scorer someday, Kirill Marchenko has turned into a complete 200 foot player, Dmitri Voronkov has quickly become a legit NHL center and might be a 30-30-60 guy, and Jiricek was showing a ton of growth this year.

Pascal Vincent might not run a cohesive or good NHL team but the growth in individual players is undeniable. I’d like another year of him before bringing in a better strategist and game manager at HC.

Jarmo hopefully done this summer.

I literally couldn't say it better than @JacketsComrade here. Only thing I'd add is between the lines: I personally don't think Vincent is responsible for some of the lineup decisions, I think the FO has given him an MO to play certain guys in an effort to showcase them for a trade. I, too, would give Vincent another year based on the young guys' growth, and the new GM (hopefully before the end of the all-star break) should give him that peace of mind.
