I mean, yes, it helps a rebuild, but the Avs aren't trading Bo for Lindholm like this.

As a Canucks fan I LOVE Chris Tanev, but you're certifiably insane if you think he's worth even a quarter of that package

I was definitely thinking along the lines. And can easily see a future 2nd instead of a first for a draft pick. The idea is Conroy somehow leverages the retained salary to be worth a pick this year over a future pick. But yes I have heard Colorado may be willing to dangle Byram for an upgrade with 2c etc... but this trade seems high though I agree.

Calgary is looking for a 1 st for tanev at deadline at a minimum from many experts. I used kuzmenko to help clear salary for Vancouver as Kuz has been a healthy scratch many times this year. Some reports say Vancouver may be looking to clear Kuzmenkos salary.

I don't really see Byram for a rental, though. Lindholm wants more than the Avs can give in terms of extension.

That is true. The Avs clear some salary with Byram as well plus the increased cap. At the same token, the Avs would need to feel confident they can replace Byram who has been decent this year but not as good as expected. If they don't, you are right because it is possible Lindholm is a rental only. Avs would prefer a prospect plus a first. The only problem is Calgary would want a current NHLers young enough added at that point. For a play like Lindholm it is usually a first, a prospect and a fringe NHLers with potential. I took out the fringe NHLer and prospect for Byram only.

As a flames fan, would be awesome to get Byram. I just have trouble seeing the Avs letting him go.

they can ask for a 1st all they want but no one is paying that for a 34 year old rental

Giordano got a 2nd at 37 I think it was, Bryan leetch, Ron Francis... I can keep going with a large list of players that past what many think is their primes gets a 1st. Also helping the flames is that this year has a weaker rental department for players. This gives leverage for Flames. And also Jeannot last year who was essentially a third/4th liner got a first plus a multitude of other picks.

Also it has been reported that Anaheim wants a first for Gibson. That is something I don't see happening as Goalies lately have been sold for less, but many teams will look to hold out and see how the market plays out to maximize return.

all those players were either significantly younger or were just better than Tanev along with not having his injury history. If Zadorov didn't get a 1st then Tanev doesn't either. Tanev will likely go for a 2nd+ 3rd or B prospect

Brian leetch was much older when he was traded to the Leafs. Same as Francis. At the moment, many insiders are predicting a 1st round pick for Tanev because there is not a large number of defensive available. The best two seem to be Tanev and Hanifin. This is what is helping Tanev that is also near the top in hits, blocked shots, and while he has an injury history it is not significant injuries and usually more minor.
Also helping is the fact that reports are saying Vancouver, Boston, Toronto, New Jersey, Edmonton, New York Rangers, Dallas, Los Angeles, Detroit, Tampa Bay as teams that looked to have been searching at D upgrades many of which looked at Tanev and Hanifin.
As a Leafs fan myself, and reading this reports, I am hoping that the Leafs don't trade their 1st for Tanev. I would want a young controllable defenseman only if we did. We trade two firsts last year, 1 for the again Rielly and another for McCabe who is only 4 years younger than Tanev and Tanev is considered much better than McCabe.

comparing Tanev to Leech and Francis is crazy lmfao. this package is way to much for Tanev they will be lucky to get a late first let alone a top 6 forward and 2nd on top of that. Canucks pass easily.

Tanev has 16 hits this year, he's nowhere near the top there but other than being one of the best shot blockers he's not elite enough to warrant a 1st, a 2nd and B prospect sure but he's not getting a 1st. Giordano and Leetch were both Norris winners who offered help at both ends of the ice and Francis & Giroux were still putting up good numbers. Tanev being a good shutdown Top 4 D will get a decent return but unless there's a massive bidding war or a team gets desperate he won't go for a 1st.

Byram is <$4M. You clear him out, you still have to replace his roster contributions. Even if you replace him for $2M, the Avs don’t have the cap space in 2024-2025 to fit a Lindholm extension ($7M+) unless they move Girard/Manson and RyJo also.

Okay I admit the error on hits. But as it looks there seems to be a bidding war as there are little defenseman listed as actual trade bait. The top two seem to be Tanev and Hanifin. There are few top end players this year for trades which will either lead to a small deadline of little moves of teams overpaying for players they shouldn't. In previous years, overpays happen often at the deadline.
Leafs which can be wrong but refused to trade for Tanev because it involves for their 1st which Calgary has reportedly wanted.

Calgary can ask for whatevr they want now but as the deadline closes in and no one is giving up a 1st they'll have to settle for a lesser return or risk losing him for nothing. His return will likely be closer to what Zadorov got.

Such an easy no for the Avs. A guy with what? 1? 2 points? in the last 25 games for a single playoff run for the kid who was taken 4th overall, was their best D in the cup run and is 22 yrs old, cost controlled, and a future 1LD on most teams......and then you want a first on top? Hard pass!

Funny how you made COL and VAN overpay drastically for Lindholm and Tanev, but made BOS underpay for Hanafin

Bruins take that and run, no refunds
