Some fans were saying all year that I would be disappointed by the Monahan return. Turns out you were right. I like the return, but I’m very disappointed by how early it is. If the Jets were willing to give a first this early in the bidding war, imagine what we could have got at the deadline. Maybe not that much more (extra second or so) but at least we would enjoy watching him for another month. He was an awesome player for us, but I doubt he resign. I’m sad

Yet you would've been the first one to cry about not pulling the trigger early if Monahan gets injured later this month in a meaningless game against Chicago.

I think the perception is changed about waiting right up until the deadline and hoping for a bidding war. Teams that had the space (the Jets) get more utility getting the player in early, more time to adapt to the system, develop chemistry, etc.

MTL didn't have to retain and still got a first + what more were you hoping for?

Probability isn't part of the puzzle, if he gets injured he gets injured, there's no I don't think or why would he be here. If the guy trips on a stick in practice and buckles his knee for a reason or another we lost 100% of the trade asset.

Monahan was worth a late 1st and that's what Kent got for him. It's a good deal and a smart move by Hughes to avoid any extra risk before making it.

I don't think that's the case, I think they offered more now so that they could get more use out of Monahan.

Also a guy with a rather notorious history of getting injured isn't an asset you want to sit on hoping the price gets driven up only to have him get injured and get nothing.

not sure how that logic workd. sometimes players get less because the Gms wait too long too.
