Excited to see how monahan fits

Created by: ChevelsDayOff

Description
whether you like the trade or not theres far more positives than negatives here imo. hoping he’ll have some chemistry and help push the jets over the top. i like having ehlers on the top line but bones said he’ll start with monahan. lineup looks dangerous and balanced. having iafallo as a 4th line winger is kind of a nutty luxury.

we’ll have to waive two players (i think toninato and AJF) or maybe another move is coming so we dont risk losing both of them for nothing. mcgroarty might be another huge addition if they think he’s NHL-ready

Losing a first that was gonna be lower than pick 26 isn’t really a big deal when we also have the habs 2nd which will be a high pick.

He's gonna be amazing. I think many Jets fans underestimate him just like Habs fans did before we picked him up.

I agree. The difference in value between the WPG 1st and the MTL 2nd is roughly the equivalent of an 80th overall pick (mid-to-late 3rd rounder). I used The Athletic's historical draft pick valuations they published a couple of years ago to do the rough math.

Monahan will help the PP, PK and faceoffs, all areas Winnepeg needed help.

That line up is very well balanced, and they still have capspace, so they could still add another piece (RHD?).

It would need to he a body swap though (Stanley out?), because their roster is full and I can't see them waiving anyone.

iirc we’ve previously successfully waived AJF and toninato so that’s why i chose them.

Reminds me so much of little, hopefully likes Winnipeg and possibly an extension. Nice 2c fit or a lower lineup winger possibly. Nice add, was kind of hoping for a retained savard to come too.

I don't know who's been bumpering the PP but Monahan has been effective there.
He'll definitely help on crucial faceoffs and be the go-to guy in those situations.
He should see more 5v5 production in general simply by having more productive wingers.
Winnipeg's PK has room for improvement and he could help there.

Winnipeg is getting help in several key areas with this one acquisition. This should be a win-win-win. Good for the Jets, good for the Habs, good for Monahan.
