The Devils aren't trading either of those guys, let alone both...this is close to delusional.

Hughes won't be involved that's for sure but what's delusional is Devils fans acting like Mercer is the next superstar. Mercer and a 3rd wouldn't get it done without NJ adding something else too.

He's not a "superstar" but he is a very valuable piece for our team, he's a very important role player for us. He's also a great locker room presence which is a very underrated thing to be in hockey. So while you might think we are "overvaluing" him we really are just recognizing how special he is to our team.

NJ's a "conservative buyer" right now, which is translated to being a scavenger team looking to move maybe a 3rd round pick and a 5th round pick for depth help. They won't be gunning for high priced rentals and goaltenders at this time. Their chances of making the playoffs are too low to make high price gambles like this, especially taking on the unstable Markstrom for another two years.
