Change the 3rd to a 2nd in the EDM deal.

Highly doubt LAK is giving up a 1st for a rental, but I do think you could get a 2nd for Mantha from someone, a 1st is wishful thinking. Maybe if Caps took back a bad contract as well then a 1st makes sense.

Mantha is worth a second without retention though, 2.85 million in retention is what makes Mantha worth the first, as it allows LA the space to make other deals without having to move money out. Also, I see Lindgren's value going down as the Caps continue to play abysmally.

Bourgault and a 3rd is already an overpay for a backup goalie, why would you change it to a 2nd ??? Not remotely worth it from an Oilers perspective

Lingren is the caps defacto starter, he just got injured for a bit so Kuemper has played more games

Good for him, he has played well, but goalies don't tend to go for high prices, and this is a massive overpay for EDM imo. No reason to make the trade this way.

It wasn't that much in my opinion. It's the value equivalent to two third-round picks. A 3rd round pick in 2024 and a prospect who is regressing in the AHL, instead of taking the next step. Typically prospects are the first thing to go in contending teams, as they are valued less, especially when they aren't close to playing in the NHL

Mantha is a UFA at the end of the season. 50% retention at the deadline equates to something like $600k in cap space. If he had a full season remaining, you could argue that his value should be a 1st with retention. No way is it that much now.

Honestly, if I'm the Kings, I'm more interested in Lindgren than Mantha.

Los Angeles isn't paying a first for Mantha to play 32 games on the third line.

If we're giving up Bourgault in that deal then it's gonna be a 3rd or a 4th, not a second.

I agree on the Skinner take, I'd rather it be a 4th but I'd do this deal

Then you lose him on waivers for nothing to a bottom feeder looking for players to put into a lineup.

I mean, he has 16 points in 38 games in his second AHL season, on pace for less than last season. I guess it depends on how he's being deployed.
