I agree, exactly what they’re missing. There was talk that he said nah this last offseason when approached about a trade to Buffalo once though. Don’t know how true, or have any link.

He declined to waive his no trade to go to Buffalo last summer, not sure he is looking to sign there next summer.

And he also said no to waiving for Buffalo last year, So i seriously doubt he signs there this summer. Plus he's looking at closer to the Noah Hanifin 7 x $7,500,000 deal for 6x6 he'd remain in Carolina.

Looking at this roster, there is no place long term for Savoie and Rosen, unless you want to ruin them on the fourth line. Is there any chance we could get one of them for one of our D? Perhaps Barron for Savoie or Xhekaj for Rosen?

They would want more established guys. Barron wouldn’t fit skill wise and xhekaj isn’t very good.

Barron would be a really good fit with Dahlin or even Power if he stops making rookie mistakes (he should tho, he is solid defensively with Laval now and he was showing improvement in his last few games in the big league). Next season, he will be a full time nhler

Xhekaj is and will continue to be a very good physical third pairing D on any team. Rosen will be good, but he won’t get a chance in Buffalo. So they trade a better piece at a position of strength for a worse piece at a position of weakness

Savoie need 1 year in AHL, with Ostlund. If Rosen outplays Skinner then buyout should be on the menu.

Oh f*ck I forgot Ostlund. Wow, Buffalo has a lot of good forward prospects that won’t ever get a shot

They're all going to get a shot. Most of the bottom six is going to be gone in the next 12 months. And not every forward prospect will hit. Even if 50% of them do (which would be great) there's more than enough room to accomodate 2 forwards into the top 9.

This isn't accurate. It wasn't that he didn't want to go to Buffalo, he didn't want to leave Carolina. He also said no to Nashville. I fully expect him to re-sign, but if they can't make the money work, there would probably be mutual interest if for no other reason than a) BUF could pay him and b) Karmanos knows him very well.

He is from opposite end of state…Tarrytown, just over Tappen Zee bridge from New Jersey. Played minor/youth hockey in NJ.

(Not saying he is going to Jersey…just saying he may not have a link to Buffalo).

yeah the link is personnel (Karmanos and maybe Adams) not location.

Karmanos was gone by the time Pesce arrived in Carolina.

I think the personnel connection to watch would be Jim/John link in Philly.

Well, maybe Jim Rutherford could be option too. Was GM went drafted.

I think Torts link would be as good as any.

No they aren’t. The top 9 is almost set. One will replace Skinner eventually. You don’t want to have young players on the fourth line cuz they will turn into Krebs 2.0

It's literally not lol. Girgensons, Okposo and robinson are all UFA's this summer. That's 3 spots. Greenway is likely gone next summer. There's 4. Krebs probably gets dealt at some point. That's 5 out of 6 spots in the bottom six. Or an entire 3rd line That could be Kulich-Ostlund-Rosen. And again, that's assuming every young player pans out. odds are 50-70% of them won't.

Here is the top 9, although you could just see above :
Benson - TNT - JJP
Skinner - Mittelstadt - Quinn
Kulich - Cozens - Tuch
See, no spot. And you don’t want prospects stuck on the fourth line

Skinner isn't going to be in the top 9 when the Sabres get a new coach and try to be competent. He's already become a massive liability because his offense no longer out paces his defense. Likely the next coach healthy scratches him a bunch and then he ends up retained and dealt.

Mittelstadt-Tage-Tuch

Benson-Cozens-Peterka

Kulich-Ostlund-Quinn/Rosen. Quinn is injury prone, Rosen will get plenty of minutes in the top nine assuming he isn't a bust.

For the record, I don't even disagree with your premise. But it gave kevyn adams a seizure when he had to trade ECHL forward Josh Bloom. There's a zero percent chance he moves any of his top prospects.

So Skinner is gonna get replaced by Ostlund so Savoie and Rosen/Quinn will not get their chances. I think Adams is smart enough to recognize his team’s weakness and trade for a D

Actually skinner will probably get replaced by savoie, Ostlund still needs to play 2 years in the AHL. He can't just play for the NHL team right away.

If he was as competent as you think he is, the Sabres wouldn't be closer to Celebrini than the Habs in February lol. He's not a good GM.
