24-25 With Jake

Created by: edeangel84
Team: 2024-25 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 4, 2024
Published: Feb. 13, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I still think they will try to extend Jake rather than trade him. I took a gamble on a couple of cheap goalies who we can hope will rebound like Ned. Monohan is a long shot but it would be idea for our long term problem of needing a true 3C. Tanev and Bobby Bortuzzo would give us the kind of veteran RHD who can do the tough stuff and balance out what Tanger and EK bring to the table.

Team Ancient is getting older. Tanev, Bortuzzo, Nosek?

Foegele on 2nd line? Guentzel signs that cheaply? Monahan and Tanev sign cheap? All in an large cap growth year? (and chances are Guentzel, tanev, monahan will all want some NTC clauses, almost making your top 6 forwards and top 5 defensemen very hard to move).

And I happen to think all your trades probably get turned down.

I would presume they dont make the playoffs this year, so thats 2 yrs out of the playoffs and the key core players a year older in 24-25, I just see a worse team

Why are the Red Wings doing this?
Who does he replace? Copp or Veleno (the bottom 2 centers)?
Why pay this price that seems high for no improvement.

Just no, works for the Pens but not the wings.

I was going to say he could play 4th line centre and move Veleno to the wing, I wouldn't replace Veleno in the line up. This price is easy too high though I agree. The extra year of term really hurts this for me.

What is too high? A 4th? Or is the prospect that valuable? Because I’ve never seen any wings fan comment on him among the top end prospects.

All of those trades get turned down? A 4th for Ned and a 5th for Ruhwedel are easy trades. There’s nothing risky about those trades for either buyer. The Eller trade would be ideal for a playoff team even if it isn’t the wings. Smith probably gets dealt this summer or maybe at the deadline and with the retention I don’t see how he is t worth that rather medium price.

Tanev isn’t getting big money at his age. If we offer 4 years that’s going to beat what almost anyone else offers for term. Older players like term and don’t like moving around. They have families and likely want to end their playing days in one spot. Our retirement home is an ideal ending spot.

For me he doesn't move the needle enough to take on the extra year and add to the already problematic log jam at wing. The only way I would think this type of deal would work for the wings is if the RD was Holl, but that won't work for the Pens.

I wouldn’t mind taking Maata back but Holl’s cap hit is too high for a 3rd RHd.

He is a nice steady stay at home Right Handed defenseman with good size and can skate. Would you trade that quickly?

I think the Jets are probably going to have to shed salary next summer so I doubt that'd interest them.

For a 34 year old declining 4th line centre that makes 2.45M next season? The prospect of actually too much and although people may not know much about him, he is developing nicely and could be a nice third pair shut down defender with a booming shot. Also our RHD depth in the organization isn't that great so losing him is very not ideal.
Detroit's cap situation is tough next season so adding a player like him could be an issue. He could be very much out of the league or be a tweener next season and we would be stuck with his cap hit.
It's depth picks but it's still a bit much. Maybe a 4th alone or a couple later picks.
Personally I would rather pay a bit more in value and get Sturm.

No chance Winnipeg trades a 24YO center and adds a 3rd for one year of a declining, overpaid 33YO left shot winger that does nothing for them.

Fair enough I was just thinking of bubble teams that’s could use a veteran.
