It's not bad value. I would prefer fewer assets and high potential. I'm not a fan of any of the Oiler's prospects at all honestly.

I don’t see it as a lowball. I actually am happy to see an Oilers fan who thinks that one of the best wingers in the league is actually valuable. Most of your fellow fans have been absolute clowns.

I agree that it’s not even in my top 5 preferred trade partners and after interacting with several of them here I really hope Jake goes to Vegas and knocks them out.

Has a rental player ever returned two 1st round picks, even conditionally?

The only one I can think of is the Marty St. Louis trade. This would definitely be one of the biggest trade deadline prices to pay ever. But every team is aware that Edmonton has immense pressure to win a cup, and guentzal is a perennial 40 goal scorer (or 40 goal scoring pace).

Pretty sure he had a full year remaining on his contract when he was traded.

Marian Hossa is the closest comparison. 29yo rental, 40 goal scorer at 6MM.

He returned the Pens best prospect (ranked in the top 30 NHL prospects), a 1st, and two middle 6 forwards under 25. Basically 2 1sts +

Guentzel also has better stats than Marty and is ten years younger.

Pittsburgh also got Dupuis in that trade, who was the 2nd best player in the trade at the time.

Yes, but Dupuis was largely a depth throw in. He ended up being great value, but that wasn't accounted for in the deal at all. Dupuis was considered a decent depth winger at best.

My point was that you can't look at the returns for Hossa + Dupuis and say it's equivalent to the return here. There's more value in this return.

I'd also argue that 29 year old Hossa was more valuable than 29 year old Guentzel.

I really think Ned is going to be included with any Guentzel deals to Edmonton. Which would be a solid goalie and one of the best wingers. I do like the value in this trade

Definitely agree there. I know Friedman made the statement he expects Dubas to want the Giroux package so I think that was a good- not great- prospect in Tippett and a late 1st (with offsetting throw ins on each side). I think this is more than fair proposal, just not my preference of prospect pool is all.

Jake now is better than Giroux was when that trade was made.

I'd say debatable in value. Giroux is obviously older so maybe less value if the acquiring team wants to extend, but Giroux can play center so value boost there.

At the time Philly traded him to Florida he was not the Claude Giroux we were facing a decade ago who was a top 5 player.

People forget Giroux said he wanted to go to Florida and turned down other trades which limited his trade value. Plus trade values have increased greatly especially come deadline time. If there is a bidding war who knows how much someone could pay for a player. Plus Guentzel is a proven top player in the season and playoffs which should boost his value a bit.

At worst he was a capable 2C at 33 yrs. old. He's been very good since he left PHI too. Always controlled play really well and still produces offense at a good rate. He's a very good 2C. Probably better than Malkin at this rate and I think highly of Malkin still.

I don't think the value is bad at all, think it's correct for the most part but I also think there are a few other teams in the league that could offer better youth/prospects.

Would also say the 1st needs to be 2024 and not 2025.

Tell McDavid that. I get everyone loves their own young guys, but McLeod has 9 goals in 49 games. If you're going for it, you don't let McLeod get in your way.

Yes he would probably be the long awaited for 3C.
