Even if they were same age…Zegras was still better prospect at similar point/similar age. Since he has proven himself in NHL…I think you would be talking about adding a Dvorsky sized piece.

There would probably have to be at minimum a 2nd attached there. Zegras is not a player that fits what St Louis normally targets.

This. Honestly Verbeek would love Snuggerud, and Gauthier would be stoked. But with Z’s proven back-to-back 60 point seasons I don’t think you can look at these two guys apples to apples in value. As the base pieces of a trade though? Sure 👍

There is a MASSIVE qualitative difference between a guy who has played top-6 minutes in the NHL for 200 games and a kid who has not even signed his ELC yet, no matter how good a prospect he is. St. Louis would have to add more than the Blues' 2024 first, because it won't be a top-10 selection.

But more to the point, I don't see why you would want Z to be your #2 C. He isn't close to having the defensive responsibility that you need for that slot, it's pretty clear that he's not going to play center for the Ducks from this point on, and his career face-off-win percentage is below 41.

Not that I don't disagree, but Thomas/Buch/Kyrou have been given alot of matchup situations this year. Having a defensive 2C isn't a huge liability. Our current one is not good defensively at center in Schenn.

Nonetheless, this isn't a great idea. Alot of fans in St. Louis can't appreciate Kyrou. They certainly aren't going to appreciate Zegras who plays a higher risk game and is a liability at center down the middle (He's still young very likely could change).

Not to mention cost acquisition doesn't make alot of sense for us. We have 4 fairly good bets to be NHL players and a couple impact in our system in Snuggerud, Dvorsky, Stenberg, and Lindstein. I get this subtracts one. But it would take more than a 1-1 swap and that asset should be put towards trying to bring a 2nd wave of defenseman with Lindstein.

Would like to add after re-reading. Those aren't our only legitimate NHL prospects. Those guys just don't have much of a bust factor to them and are extremely good bets to be at minimum 3rd liners. Stenberg is probably never going to eclipse a middle 6 guy.

There has to be a significant amount added to this if you want Anaheim to even think about moving Zegras

I agree with this if they need a defensively responsible 2C today. But he’s 22. I would far from count him out as someone who could round out his 200ft game, and we’ve seen progress in that area with Cronin this year. The only reason he won’t be a C in ANA is that we’re spoiled with Leo and McT

I do agree though that 2c is the Blues biggest need. The defense needs work obviously but we need a 2nd scoring line more IMO. We have no one to drive play and create offense there. First line doesn’t light it up and we don’t win usually.
