Flames Continue Re-Tool

Created by: Gag1
Team: 2023-24 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 17, 2024
Published: Feb. 18, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I recognize its unlikely that the Flames make this many trades. They need to move Hanifin and Tanev and it would be smart to sell high on Markstrom and Coleman.

The proposals outlined below provide some options to pick up young players and some draft picks to re-tool quickly. It would also provide the Flames with some cap flexibility moving forward.

Top 6 AHL Forwards (Non-Roster)
Honzek - Bourque - Coronato
Stromgren - Minten - Schwindt

The Flames can offer Mangiapane and multiple 1st round picks to Anaheim for Zegras to re-tool on the fly. If the Ducks reject, then the Flames rebuild via the draft which will take longer. It may be better to hold on to the picks as I am not really sold on Zegras.

I would have proposed Tavev (50% retained) to Oilers for Broberg and 1st round pick but Friedman reported that Edmonton won't move Broberg for a rental. Maybe this will change as Tavev is the type of player they need (IMO). I like this option as the Flames need more young defenders too.

What is your feedback? What would you change?

Rangers need more right wingers, not to swap wingers. And they don’t want Rooney back either

They have picks and low end prospects to offer

Avs decline, both piece's combined aren’t worth a third let alone the avs adding a promising young player.

Anaheim wants at least one high-quality asset for Zegras; the overpriced short-term Mangiapane isn't it. Matt Coronato might work with all those picks, though.

I don't expect Steve Yzerman to invest heavily in a rental even if there's a chance Hanifin might re-sign there, and Colorado and NY clearly decline.

Among the more … far fetched … trade proposals I’ve seen. Cue the fans of bad teams overvalue their mid players portion of the nhl season 🤷🏻

1. Sure
2. Remove Reeves and it goes on the to be considered if we don't get a better offer pile
3. Edwards won't allow Conroy to retain salary otherwise it's ok
4. I can't think of the proper word for this one. Irrelevant or meaningless are as close as I got after thinking about it for the 10 seconds it was worth.
5. Coleman isn't for sale + we don't want Goodrow.
6. A very emphatic NO to Zegras. All flash and no substance.

You're not getting one of best prospects in the AHL for Tanev. Drop that ask from Bourque to a 2nd Round Pick, and maybe a small sweetener like an additional mid-late round pick, or lower level prospect and you're in the ballpark. This current trade is a very easy "no" from the Stars.
