Holland is looking to surprise again this year

Description
Remember last year when nobody saw the Ekholm trade coming? I think Holland is working on something similar. Not saying it's this Andersson deal, but something similar both in framework and in target. And I know Flames fans will insist that Andersson isn't available, but that's what we all said about Ekholm last year too. As fans, we simply don't know what's going on behind the scenes in NHL front offices.

I like the direction of getting Andersson too, but it'll cost more than that especially if were getting retention.
Would say another pick and prospect is included, which is still a price I'd be willing to pay for him.

Alternatively we could drop the retention and move Janmark to the AHL, would be the same cost based on your ACGM.

If WSH retains on Dowd I would get them to retain the max...helps this year to eat up some bonus overage and next year below league min player. cant imagine cost would change materially, maybe a 4th instead of 5th, but helps us out on both sides

But then there would be only 20 players on the roster, which isn't going to cut it down the stretch.

      I agree, but I think 50% retention would cost a 3rd, not a 4th. And I didn't have a 3rd to spend (unless they would take a 2025 pick).

Yea it's risky and not ideal, tbh If we tossed in that third it would probably work out.
Really depends on if Calgary's owner/management are willing to retain.

San Jose declines. They're not using their final retention slot for a 2025 5th.
