  1. Saros, Juuse
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (NSH)
Additional Details:
Deadline deal. I know Mercer isn't on NJ's list to give up, but I also think Trotz's leverage shrinks the longer Saros goes without being traded. This is where they end up, filling positions of need on each side.

Trotz’s hands are not the least but tied - he does not need to trade Saros.

The trouble with offer sheets, team loses four first rounders and are paying UFA money, So is spending 12m on UFA and keeping the picks better?

if you’re spending 17M on 1 player, and giving away 4 unprotected first rounders, Just give 5M AAV to 4 different solid top6 forwards and top 4dmen and keep them picks

For purposes of draft pick compensation it’s calculated over 5 years. But for the actual contract it’s 12 mill x 7 years, 84 mill total

Calculated for draft pick compensation that’s “16.8”

12Mx7 years. Offer sheet compensation takes the whole contract and averages it over 5 years for the draft pick compensation

ooo okay. yeah they easily match that knowing Pettersson currently has that same offer on the table.

Technically the cap hit is about 12,,,,but the conditions of the compensation is 16.8,,,making it four first rounders.
But I agree with you, It's usually a bad deal for the team making the offer sheet. Just fill out your roster with 12m....and hope you can get good ELCV value in few years with those picks.

Definitely a cup level team but without saros they have nobody who can competently start 60 games. play a 1b that much and they get awful results most likely, even at his worst saros is elite
