laugh And why would Elias Pettersson leave Vancouver for a cellar dweller in Montreal? That joke of an offer isn't enough for EP40.

Canucks pass. Reinbacher is a good start but a late 1st and protected 1st aren’t enough

If Petterson decides he wants out of Vancouver, he wont sign on a worse canadian team. He is 100% going to a team in the US with a smaller market/less media. Id say close to 0% chance but who knows.

IF and only if he doesn't want to resign, otherwise pay the man and keep him here lol

Barron for Kakko 1 for 1? NYR's RD is set in literal stone for the next 4+ years, they have no need for him. I think you forgor to add Kirby at 50% retention : P

nahh if we win the lottery + if we get Pettersson I promise you we are making the playoffs. We are much closer than you think. I think this is the off-season Hughes wants to make a splash and load up.

Ya I have to imagine if he doesn't sign in Van he is looking for a quieter market or NYR because it's the big apple.

Don't get me wrong, im not saying Montreal is a bad team. Im just saying if speculation/rumors are true, I can't see him signing in Canada. Nothing against Montreal by any means. He claimed he wants to play for a winning team, can't help but feel like this season caught him off guard with all the wins (up until this point) hence the stalemate/lack of contract talks. If we crumble or go out first round. He might back up his statement and ask out.
Or, everyone and their dog is overthinking. Maybe Petterson plans on signing and wants to do things his way. If he says they'll talk in the off season, lets hope they will and its solved before next season.

Yeah I was being sarcastic there, I figured you wouldn't. But for me, if we're trading Kakko, I'd want someone with retention and at least signed for next year. I don't really know if that'd work with anyone there. Doubt Newhook would be available, and not sure Anderson is good enough/MTL probably wouldn't want to retain a lot of money for that long

But Montreal isn’t like the other teams. It’s THE Canadians. Biggest Franchise in the league. The Los Angeles Lakes of the NHL. Everyone dreams of playing here. If the money is there and he sees our ambitions, the direction we are taking, who knows he might be interested. Lebron James won in Cleveland, but to have the « Goat » mark next to his name, he needed to win the legendary franchise. LA. A team where players like Bryant O’Neal Abdul Jabbar all won and became legends. I see it the same with the Habs, if you want to be remembered, Montreal is the best team to do it. A city who eats sleep and live Hockey. I still remember that Lehkonen OT goal vs Vegas to send us to the finals, city was going crazy, streets filled with people, fireworks, cops everywhere. It was just the ECF!!

I mean, I get what you're saying... but without going on and on naming names, Crosby, Ovechkin, Mackinnon, Stamkos etc etc, all did quite fine in making a name for themselves, not in Montreal. Petterson does NOT like media, at all. To be honest, even though he's my favorite player he doesn't strike me as a "I need to prove my legacy in the best market!" he's more of a "let me play hockey and leave me alone, don't ask questions, etc etc

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, who knows maybe he likes Montreal. Time will tell

Welcome to Capfriendly.

The typical loser response. People who disagree to JUST disagree with you, offering no explanation are just losers. Easiest response to make and no one calls them out here.

Columbus is actually a nice place and the media isn't breathing down the players necks like in a MTL/TOR market

TOR isn't even that bad media wise... The real issue is that each player is so popular, it's harder for them to go unrecognized...

You've kind of confused the Canadiens with the Leafs... The Leafs are statistically the biggest and most valuable franchise in the league

And to your point about passionate fans, did you hear on the news how screwed up Toronto became after the Leafs won 1 round... All of Canada, the part with Leafs fans as there are Leafs fans everywhere, would blow up if the Leafs ever made the SCF again... And that roster would become heroes like that
