I can’t see MTL taking this. Maybe without the retention. Either way, adding a RHD makes much more sense for DAL if you ask me.

We take it immediatly.

Matheson isnt the amazing offensive defensemen his points made him out to be. He has good passing and great skating but his IQ isnt where you'd want it.

Also very very bad defensively.

Anyone outside the MTL market proposing a Mathewson trade needs to have a better understanding of what he brings. In the top 15 dman point getters, he’s top 3 in minutes and 1st for minutes on the pk, and the majority of his points come at even strength. I don’t think the Habs will trade him but if they do the package would have to be considerably better. The 1st will probably be at the backend of a weak draft.

Let’s start with Stankoven…

well..., montreal will absolutely send their top scoring hometown defenseman homeboy wearing a letter to the stars AND retain on him for several years. for a late first and a previous late first.

Trust me, I’ve known that about Matheson for quite sometime lol. He’s still a top 4 guy though. I just think that, if they were to trade him, MTL would be better served moving him while keeping their retention spot free for the next three years, which can certainly be done.

Also, DAL just isn’t a good fit for him. They have two solid top 4 LD already.

i think boston will want more retention or to include a cap dump because of their situation for the rest of the season

first up, i think boston would absolutely have interest in suter, but with two years left on his deal, there's going to need to be more retention than that.

i think this is a massive overpay for matheson. beware the d man that can put up some decent numbers on a team that hasn't played a meaningful game all season. dash 20 and the majority of his points on the powerplay. now, he's likely not going to get the powerplay time in dallas, so what's the point.

I think the retention is a big problem for Montreal. Matheson already doesn't make a ton against the cap. And sure, he'd probably not be as productive on another team, but he would likely have better impacts given how tough his usage is.

As great a prospect Bourque is, if Montreal were to move Matheson retained I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be looking at an undersized winger.

Bruins would definitely be on board with Suter but there's no reason for him to waive his NMC. Stars are just as much contenders for Suter's first cup as the Bruins so it doesn't make sense.
