Potential partially distressed assets hunt

Created by: mokumboi
Team: 2023-24 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 14, 2024
Published: Feb. 28, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
PREFACE: I'm not saying any of these players are bad or can be had for peanuts. Just that, for one reason or another, they could be plucked.

Army did both selling and buying last TDL/summer, and I think that's what will happen again. The Blues love to find out of favor guys and get the best out of them, been doing it since the 80s. This plan did not work out the best last year, so we try try again.

In general order of attractiveness, considering all factors. Ignore the line-up chart.

If there's such a shuffle that makes Svozil available, it's not going to be this season, because it's going to be very dependent on how well he and Mateychuk develop. Provorov isn't a factor; he's a stopgap expected to be moved.

Do you think a 2nd would do it?

I would trade Broberg in a package for one of Parayko, or Buchnevich. Hofer of course would be another target, but he’s not getting moved.

For LA, now I’m no expert of course, but I wonder if they would trade Kailiyev for possibly a retained Binnington? I know Talbot is doing very good this year, but will he be this good next year? Also, he could warrant a lot of money too. Maybe it’s better to get a guy that has won a cup. Again, just like Edmonton, Hofer would be a good target I imagine, but doubt St Louis moves him.

1 - Last I checked, Parayko is not available. A Buch trade is far more realistic, one would think. But I'm not convinced he couldn't be had in a move just for him. Am I being stubborn? Maybe. Maybe not.

2 - Kaliyev is nowhere near enough to get Binnington, let alone retained. He'd be an add-on in such a trade. Maybe the second piece. But Binnington is presumably not available, and retention on top sounds like a pipe dream. That would get expensive as hell.

I certainly would, but like Viqsi said, probably too early to make that decision. He's got plenty of ELC left and is likely to be 3LD in Columbus as soon as next year's TDL.

Good info, gents.

That said, Jake Bean could be a good target as a "potentially partially distressed asset." Columbus has plenty of those. Svozil just happens to fall under "prospect" for now.

(also, lol, neither of us are gents)

Especially if they move out a majority of their depth wingers (Vrana, Kapanen, Sunqvist, Blais) Kaliyev is a fantastic fit for the Blues

Not interested in Bean at all, myself.

Ah, good to know. Pardon my assumption.

Oh no, I believe you misunderstood me. I meant Broberg in a package for one of those two players. They may target others, those are just the two I would pick out of your roster. I too would not trade Parayko at this time if I was St Louis though.

I understand that Kailiyev would not be enough to get Binnington as well. I too was thinking he would have to be in a package for him, just thought retention because of the 6M Binnington makes. Again, I’m no expert, that was just a thought for LA.

Completely understandable. Just putting him out there since he's LHD, former first round pick, and could be had for very cheap.

No worries! Just thought it was funny that you happened to be talking to the two female Jackets posters. Cheers!

Boqvist could also be had from CBJ, IMO. Probably a 3rd or so.

He's done a surprisingly great job on the top-line with Z (at least offensively). With Jiricek's development, I just dont see him staying there long, though. I think he can stick around as an offensively minded PP2/ Middle-pair guy.

In terms of players from our team that could be dealt who would be at the top of you list (excluding pending UFAs)
I think there’s the obvious on our defencemen core but in forwards who do you think we should try and deal.
Me personally I was at the game last night in Winnepeg and I got to say some guys really impressed me on the forwards side of things I would say a majority of the guys played great but someone who really was brutal was Hayes. Slow to pucks no work ethic and constantly getting beat in corners unlike someone like torpy. I believe Hayes is the only forwards with term we should actively shop this summer, we could try and move Saad but I think there won’t be many options due to his higher cap then a guy like Hayes. What do you think ? Or other blues fans reading this

Not the type of player needed, and he'd only get scrap minutes with Parayko and Faulk around anyway.

I'm in no hurry to ditch Saad. As for Hayes, I'm all ears. Best offer takes it. Let's go.
