Description
So let’s find him some fits and what the potential returns would look like.
Trades
1.
SEA
  1. 2025 3rd round pick (COL)
  2. 2026 2nd round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Colorado seems to be always needing a center after Kadri left. Wennberg would be a good addition to the lineup I think and would easily fit in.
Centers seem to be a hot commodity in the trade market so there could potentially be a high price on a lot of centers.
I think for Wennberg there could easily be a condition on the 2026 2nd round pick to become a 2026 1st if Colorado reaches the finals.
I think Calum Ritchie could be a good trade asset in a trade for Wennberg as well so that Colorado wouldn’t have to give up anymore draft capital
COL
  1. Wennberg, Alexander ($2,250,000 retained)
Additional Details:
We can only think he’d be traded with cap retained. Perhaps another team would like to come in and take off more of his cap hit to make the trade more appealing than it already is.
2.
SEA
  1. Kakko, Kaapo
  2. 2026 3rd round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
I think Kakko will still hold high trade value and trade the Kraken would entertain. They could become high on a Kakko turn around the way Tolvanen had turned around for them.
All it could take is Kakko and a draft pick to get Wennberg in the MSG
NYR
    Alex Wennberg at 50% retained
    3.
    SEA
    1. Beecher, John
    2. 2026 2nd round pick (BOS)
    Additional Details:
Conditional 2026 2nd round pick will become a 2026 1st round pick if Boston reaches the finals
    BOS
      Alex Wennberg at 50%
      4.
      SEA
      1. Ponomarev, Vasili
      2. 2024 2nd round pick (CAR)
      Additional Details:
Conditional 2024 2nd round pick becomes a 2024 1st round pick if Carolina reaches the finals
      CAR
        Alex Wennberg at 50% retained

Carolina typically doesn't do expensive rentals. But Wennberg does feel like a very Carolina player

Wennberg is a fine 3C, so a 2nd and 3rd is about fair value if not a little high. No chance Ritchie should be traded for him.

If Sweeney makes that trade he should be fired. No thanks from Boston.

At this point only Crosby could fetch a Ritchie-based return.
But Wennberg does possess the high end skill COL likes to emphasize. I'd be happy to rent him.

Did Cmac mention SEA must take on Johansen? LOL!

Also EF said Novak was their guy. He was the #1 Target. But he just signed a 3x3.5M extension. And now, couple of hours later Wennberg is out for " trade related reasons ".

Exactly, can't tell me that a defensive minded center who has never scored 20 goals wasn't made to be a Cane tears of joy

Wennberg has nowhere near the value of Kakko lol. Wennberg barely outproduces Kakko since he's returned (9v8 pts in their last 20), And Kakko is the Rangers' best defensive forward. If Wennberg is traded, it wouldn't be for a roster player anyway since that is counterproductive to the Rangers' need of depth. A more realistic trade would be a 3rd+Robertson or Jones

These are all quite drastic overpayments.
